Senate votes 89 - 11 to evict conures

Conures are a type of parrot, commonly kept as pets. They are larger than the budgerigar (known in the States as the 'parakeet') but smaller than the more popular Amazon parrot and highly intelligent African Grey.

"They squawk constantly and leave droppings all over the Senate chamber," said an aid to Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson (R-TX).

Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Ken Salazar (D-CO) will introduce bipartisan legislation to fund the purchase of some pet hamsters.

The House voted yesterday to reject culture. I'll bet they timed it to coincide with the Alito confirmation to prevent a riot by PBS supporters. Three dozen people can do a lot of damage when their Blackadder is threatened.
