A recent post in the 'Best Easter Eggs' thread got me thinking about the stories/series/other that I reference (indirectly) in what I write.
At the top of the list is probably The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (I remember listening to the first repeat of the original radio series over Xmas 1978). I have a list of character names from the Camberwick Green/Trumpton Universe (CTU) which I refer to whenever I am stuck. Royal Navy ship names crop up a lot in 'Above & Beyond'. England cricketers are my go-to source for village and small-town names.
Underused are 'Thomas the Tank Engine', 'Thunderbirds' and 'The Lord of the Rings' (damn you, Thiel et al.).
Other sources in sight are the music of Hlaf Man, Half Biscuit (all football matches should be played at home against Dukla Prague) and the novels of David Cornwell (all Russian baddies should be called Karla [note to self: edit current WIP]).
An upcoming reference to the Sith is not Star Wars-related.
