The keyword is "self-publishing." Google it.

As for the cost? Nerves. And usually a cut of your profits.

You can do print on demand or produce ebooks.

Costs depend on the publishing site. Google is your friend, do some homework on the various platforms.

I use Lulu for distribution of my POD and ebooks. They take a fee based on the price charged, and I get a fair return if people buy through Lulu. If people buy from Amazon or Barnes and Noble - and another one who I forget right now (the main book distributors which Lulu feed to) those players price gouge so much I'm lucky to make a buck.

So far, it's vanity publishing, not really worth the effort. You can see links to what I've done in my Sig block, so you can see what the Lulu bookstore looks like.

There are publishers (you can find them by googling for them--run publisher names you find on Amazon for genres you write). I don't self-publish. I don't pay a thing to have anything published. I don't make much per title, but, with nearly 200 titles in the marketplace now, I do OK.

Thanks a lot. i cannot afford self publishing at the moment but I should browse Amazon as you suggest.
