I don't know. Maybe I'm taking my job too seriously. Maybe it's really no big deal. But it pisses me off when I see this.

I'm browsing half.com, and I saw a link for Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, so of course I click it, wondering what's up, and knowing full well the movie isn't released until next week. There are people selling this movie. So now I'm wondering if I should turn them in, and if so, to whom?

I know that physical retail stores can get into serious trouble for doing such a thing. But can online stores?

I wonder if this is what fuels the moronic questions I get. Like this one I heard yesterday. Do you have Monsters Inc? Yeah, sure, just let me pull it out of my ass, along with the copy of The Lord of The Rings.

Customers!:p

Yeah I've heard of these bootleg movies. I really have no idea to who to turn them in. More than likely an anti piracy group.

Just oh my gawd!! Space Cowboys is a documentary?!?

Aliens? Starship Troopers? Planet of The Apes!!

Enough stupidity! No wonder I never shop there. Jeeze!

Just pop in any old video tape you have, and check out the big copyright ad it runs right near the beginning of the video. That'll give you the place to report to, along with a phone number. Maybe even a net addy, I'm not sure about that one.
You see those damned bootleg videos everywhere, they're such a waste.

April

I was in the business 10 years.. 1989-1999

trust me.. no matter who you call.. no matter what you do.. nothing is going to help.

there doesn't happen to be anything in small print about it not being shipped until next week is there?

some websites may pre sell.. that isn't illegal..

I saw nothing about it shipping next week. By all indications, it is ready to go right now. Half.com is known for selling used merchandise. I don't know. Probably simply better if I don't go look. Better for my blood pressure. LOL

I hate cheaters, and places/people that don't play by the rules. Ruins things for the rest of us.

#1 reason why I'm out of business today..

#2 is Blockbuster came to town

#3 is I got tired of stupid customers questions..

;)

Hang in there April.. I feel for ya.. I really do

Thanks.

We don't have too much problem around here, because competition is so limited. The net is our main competition, and stunts like this make it worse. Mostly it prompts the stupid questions. I mean, come on! Rings just got released to theaters not that long ago! People don't use the brains they were given. They actually look shocked when I tell them it'll be a few more months before a certain movie is on video. They want to know why.

Somebody save me before I bitch slap one of 'em!! I hate Fridays. LOL
And also, the very ones who keep breathlessly asking if we have Atlantis, are the ones who, when we get it in, say "Oh, I've already seen it". Or "No, not tonight, thanks." ERGH!! Fucking customers!

I misunderstood what you asked. You're talking about movies being released early, and I thought you were talking about warez.

Some people think that the movies in theatres are just big screen tvs with vcrs attached. They have no clue that a film shown at a theatre is different from a vcr cassette.

I don't know where you are located so this might not help. In New Zealand we can sometimes get DVDs of certain movies before they are released in the States.

I had a copy of Pearl Harbour on the 1st of December although the movie wasn't released in the States on DVD until the 4th. It isn't a bootleg copy, and it wasn't sold illegally. Shipping for the movie started a few weeks before the release date, and we have a company here, DVD World, that specialises in Zone one movies. They had no legal obligation to stick to the published release date outside the US...

There's a lot of stupid people out there. ;)

Oh, and the ones who ask the same question every time they come in.
"How much for the new releases?" When they were in the day before and asked then. *sigh*

One more week, then I have a vacation. Too bad it's not at a day spa. Maybe next time.

Yikes. Hijacking my own thread? LOL *pulling the plug on myself*

Report them to the auction/store site you saw them on.

That's something to do with the International Date Line isn't it?

LOL - Yes I was kidding

Why the fuck do you work at a video store if it bothers you so much? Quit your fucking bitching.

You are one of those dumb ass customers we were talking about

aren't you?

Does "in the business for 10 years"
mean the dead end job business?

would you like to see my profit records.. bank accounts and such from the years 1989-1999?
I'll have to scan them.. and email them.. so please.. get a handle.. we can have a lovely chat about this once very lucrative business

:)

Selling videos like that is wrong. I downloiad them from the net and watch them but I dont sell them.

Totally wrong.

LMFAO!!

Unregistered, piss off. You don't bother me at all. You'll have to try harder.

Pheonyx, you crack me up. Downloading them from the net is just as wrong as selling them illegally. LOL Don't jump my case, though. I download music, and I fully admit that it's wrong. But it doesn't stop me.

As long as you admit it.
*snicker*
I download both, music and movies, and I've got no qualms about it.
I guess its somewhat better than selling the movies, because I'm not undermining any local business by stealing its customer base, but it doesn't change the basic fact that its wrong because it still takes away from the company producing the article in q2uestion in the first place.

Exactly, Blaze.

But think of it this way. By downloading movies on your computer, you are depriving the local video store of income. You're sitting at home, watching movies for free, when you could have rented them, thereby employing some bored housewife, and giving her something to bitch about. ;)

Bah, they'll live without my $4.99. And besides, if my ex was anything to go by, bored housewives will always find something to bitch about. So will the rest of us, for that matter.
(Besides, I don't download movies because I want to avoid the monetary charges, I do it because I'm a lazy ass and want to avoid the issue of actually getting off of my comfortable couch.

Ahh the drawbacks of dial up. My modem will never stay connected long enough to download a movie completely.

As for Mp3s, yep I got like 1500 of them. They don't really make it easy to find the kind of music I like.

Not making excuses...I just dont want to pay 20-40 dollars for a single cd soundtrack.

Hey! I resemble that remark. I think I'm insulted. No, really. ;)

$4.99? Man, you're getting ripped off! For only 2 Euros here, you get the opportunity to come into a paint smelling store, peruse the racks of new releases, and get verbally abused. All at once! What a deal! LOL

(2 euros is roughly $2)

What a gyp!

For two Euros I want 15 minutes with the woman working the counter..in the backroom...naked.

In addition to the other stuff.

I drive a hard bargain.
