Self tanner

I've read five million articles on the art of applying self tanner... but I was wondering if anyone here could offer me a few quick and simple tips? And a few brands that they like? Thanks :D

I am using the Nutragena foaming tanner in medium and it works great and dries fast . Use gloves though....

I'd have to agree...or Bain de Solei....I tried both over spring break because I'm naturally pale...and I don't tan and I didn't want to look all pasty in my bikini LOL
But it was too much of a hassle so I gave up.
Although a lot of places around me are offering this new service called Mystic Tan where you put on a shower cap and put this lotion on the places you don't want tan (i.e-the palms of your hands) and you walk through this mist that applies it evenly all over your body. The cost averages about 25 bucks and it lasts between 1 and 2 weeks depending on how often you shower, shave, exfoliate, etc...:)
Hope that helps Tania.

Two questions about fake tans:

My best friend is getting married in a couple weeks. If she does the Mystic Tan thing, will the coloring rub off on her dress (assuming she does it a few days before hand)?

Also, will using the tan in a bottle not allow your skin to "breathe"?

Thanks in advance. :)

I don't think so just give the tanner a few days so that its not as fresh (just to be safe)
As for not allowing the skin to breathe, could they market it if it did that?

Thanks everyone :)

I heard somewhere that you should shower and moisturize before and after applying self tanner as well... can anyone confirm that? And are there certain areas I should go light on (like hands I seem to have gathered, lol)? I'm kind of nervous about putting it on my face too...

I use Neutrogena Sunless Tanning Lotion in Medium. It seems to work well for me, although i have not used it on my face (i have very sensitive skin). I am slightly olive complected (yet pale in the winter), so a tan looks natural on me....the color the lotion produces is pretty good. I shower and use one of those exfoliating sponges, plus shave my legs right before i put it on. Like the bottle says, use SPARINGLY on your knees, ankles, and elbows....also use sparingly on the tops of your feet and hands. I haven't found that i need to use gloves if i wash my hands really well after applying. They may turn slightly orange, but that should be gone after a day if you're a regular hand washer like me ;) If you're going to put it on your back and shoulders, get someone to help. Just rub everything in really really well and you shouldn't get streaks.

Another $0.02 from the Casper The Friendly Ghost woman. Neutrogena and Ban de Solei both work well. When you apply it just remember that you will end up tanning darker on dry skin. That's why knees and elboes come out darker. Also when you wash your hands after applying it wash them twice scrubbing really well and use cold water, warm opens up your pores and lets the lotion in.

I always had to be careful to shave my legs before I used the tanning lotion or it would color the hair and I'd have dark dots all over my legs. Like I said in the other thred I've given up, but I used the stuff for several years.

Thanks again everyone... I guess the only way I'll really get over my self tanning anxiety is to take the plunge and give it a try myself ::shivers in fear:: lol. I just can't stand to tan the 'natural' way and not feel guilt over the skin damage... yet I'm so pale I'm practically translucent. Self tanner is my only hope.
