Police in Iran are currently having a crack down on people who show signs of westernised self expression in public places.
Individuals are being arrested who have certain hair styles or wear certain types and styles of clothing more commonly seen in the west. This also includes woman who dont wear a headscarf which fully covers their hair.

Its not the first time a crackdown like this has taken place but now its taken a new twist with police demanding the offernders to reveal where they bought the clothes or which hair dresser they used. This has lead to salons and shops being shut down.

How vanilla is that? Guaranteed to fuck up ones chances of getting off in public by wearing a collar.

I'm confused by the "how vanilla is that" part. It's just their culture, it's not vanilla or kinky or anything.

It means that if you have any ideas of self expression, yur fucked.
I dont believe its their culture, just the imposed brain washing of a sick regeime.

The culture in Iran is pretty complex and often we get the impression of a country where women pretty much have to ask for permission to breathe. But the truth is that the common life there isn't even close as "depressing" as the media present. Sure, there are some pretty strict rules, but also the women there are incredibly innovative when it comes to working past those rules.

In news you always see women dressed in tšadors, that's the most conservative way of dressing and not everyone dresses that way. The traditional clothings also varies. For example in the south of Iran, by the sea women wear a lot of colorful clothes and often also these masks called borqe, nothing like the women we usually see in the news.

In the countryside and small cities the women dress more conservative than in large cities like Teheran or Shiraz, but that seems to be the way it is in western countries as well. The countryside often is more "backwards" and conservative than New York or London.

I really don't think we should judge what's going on there based on what we see in news. That's hardly even a half-truth.
