Seems a little strange...

take a break

Hanns take break mate.

Log off go out and greet the world.

Talk to human beings.

You need some human interaction I think, it will get you used to talking without being rude it will help your social interaction.

GO

It's not strange at all, Hanns.

There will always be people who kill for their beliefs.

Those on one side of any particular political killing game are commonly lauded as "freedom fighters" and the opposition as "terrorists".

UNESCO says American trade sanctions against Iraq have killed over 500,000 children, for example.

So, to an Iraqi parent, George Bush and his followers are genocidal savages.

Israeli freedom fighters now wearing suits and riding in government limos were someone else's terrorists prior to 1949.

From 1982-2000, 199 people were executed in Texas.

From 1990-1999, 766 people were executed in Saudi Arabia.

Any civilized person would conclude that Texas & Saudi are savage, cruel places run by blood-thirsty tyrants.

Your answer is to kill Arabs.

In Venezuela, the poor will likely start killing the rich again soon, as they likely will in Argentina.

Some people want to kill the Jews.

Others want to kill Catholics.

Protestants. Mormons. Pakistanis. Afghanis.

Look hard enough and you can find a reason to hate most anyone for their beliefs or birth.

Kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill.

So, you're not alone. Lots of people think killing solves problems.

You're wrong, but you're not alone.

Lance

The comparisons are all ridiculous.

That's the point.

State sanctioned killing to prop up a belief system is inherently flawed. To see the flaws, just take a peek from the other perspective.

Killing is not the answer.

Massive airdrops of Coca Cola & Guess? jeans over the West Bank would bring peace more quickly.

Well, okay....to keep you happy, we could drop some minivans over populated areas as well.

:)

First of all, the Iraqi problem is down to one man and one man alone.

Under International observers, Iraq has been given plenty of cash in the oil-for-aid deal to provide for the Iraqi people and more. He has used the cash to fund Palestinian terrorists instead of his own people. He has used the funds for his own military and for his palaces.

Secondly, how you can equate a death sentence on a convicted murderer in Texas, to a killing of a civilian eating pizza in an Israeli pizzeria is beyond me.

Israeli "freedom fighters" did not run a 100 year campaign to cleanse the ara of a people.

That is exactly what the arabs have done with Jews/Israelis in the region.

Your comparisons are laughable
And for a moment, I thought I was conversing with Lavende

Lance, they have coke, they have jeans, they have vans, satelite TV, cellular phones, radio stations, computers, taxi's, buses, an airport

These aren't "refugees" as painted by the media

Plasma screen HDTVs? FUBU hoodies? Nikes?

Most global conflict since WWII has to do with consumer goods and standard of living.

Israel's standard of living is much higher than the Palestinian occupied territories.

I say give'em a chunk of land, define the borders through the UN and slap the word "Palestine" on it... like we did for Israel.

It would be a good start.

Could we also add the stipulation that there be no terrorist activity for 75 yrs otherwise both countries loose the right of self-rule and determination?

Sure.

Then what?

F-18's and smart bombs?

As hard as it is to do, letting countries be self-determining is the better course.

Rule by the will of the people is supposed to be what the USA stands for.

The United Nations was set up to referee and resolve inter-country disputes with peace keeping and aid as required.

As soon as one country, be it the USA, China, Russia, whoever...steps in to "resolve" the situation in another country, you have colonialism, tyranny and despotism of another flavor, that's all.

The USA has become anti-UN by refusing to pay its dues and through unilateral actions that circumvent its mandate...that's the real issue.

My apologies, I was being obtuse... again.

I won't argue any of your points Lance.

My poorly made point was, we are talking about people whose hatred and loathing for one another doesn't run decades or even centuries deep. It goes back millenniums. Bearing this in mind will it ever be possible to resolve the situation?

There will always be people who hate.

The resolution lies within each of us to affect what goes on within our individual spheres of influence.

I believe that squashing evil makes you evil.

I prefer to look it in the face and stay happy. The only thing that drives darkness away is light.

I, too, would rather see the good in people.

Now if we could just get the parties in question to adopt your ideas.

Would you consider taking the "Ambassador of Light" post?

to compare killing convicted murderers in texas to some animal who straps explosives to himself and kills children by design is bogus. killing is something these peaceful muslims are quite good at achieving. while i dont disagree that others have killed in the name of religion, every religion takes a back seat to the muslims. give the Palistinians their state and there will still be a faction that will blow up the innocent. odd how you dont see 1000s in the middle east marching for peace, but you do see 1000s marching with black masks and ak47s. they dont want peace. they want to kill.

It seems we've hi-jacked this thread by agreeing with one another...

Poor Hanns must be livid.

And you are sporting a Strategic Air Command AV while painting the Palestinians as savages.

Ha!

Any good public executions on tv today?

I don't think Hanns minds at all...in fact, as usual, most of the Board is talking about him this morning.

He's the most popular poster on Lit, bar none.

Bar none. Interesting turn of phrase if I may say so.

I don't always agree with Hanns, but I find his varying points of view interesting. When he's "on his game" he can be quite interesting indeed. I was brought up with the understanding that while I shouldn't expect, or be expected, to always agree with the opinions of others, I should respect their right to express them.

To say he is the most popular poster on Lit may be a bit on the hopeful side. But he very well could be the most popular member for others to put on ignore.

hmmm I guess maybe you could see that as most popular.
