...and authors and songwriters and spoken word artists and yodelers and whatever...

...who are ballsy (a state of mind, not a gender description, mind you) enough to put their voice to their writing (or someone else's voice, that's cool too)...

...and have it man-handled my be, or rather interpreted and put into a musical soudscape...

...and eventually turned into a track on an official album release.

Confused? Keep reading.

A newly started (started by me and some friends, paperwork filed yesterday, so yeah, it's new) record label is looking to produce and release audio of on a non profit basis. From promo releases for promising bands looking for initial exposure, to various odd stuff with a limited audience.

One such thing is a project I'm working on with the working title 'Got Voice', where I want to fuse the music I make with the voice and word talents of different people around the world. And I've read and heard some pretty neat stuff from you people here on the forum, so I thought I'd ask around and see if anyone is interrested.

So:
1. I'm looking for original works of literary art of some sort. A poem, a (very) short story, song or rap lyrics, a political manifesto, whatever. (the more variety I can get the better)

2. You (or somebody you trust with your words) record them and send them to me. Sound quality doesn't have to be studio level, but it can't be too crappy either. A decent handheld microphone plugged into a computer will (probably) do.

3. I take your words, and make whatever music it inspires me to make.

4. I mix them together. Tweak, tinker, swipe and repeat until it sounds good.

5. (If needed, step 3 and 4 might have to be repeated a few times.)

6. When I have enough complete tracks to make an album, I package and release it for public humiliation.

Plausible time frame for the project is anything from 6 months to a year and a half. In case it would actually sell anything, normal Swedish (where the label is based) compensation rules for song lyrics and performers on phonographic records will apply. I'm doing research into all the legal hooplah for that right now.

So what say you, wanna lend me a voice? A PM or a "fuck yeah" post here puts you on my list, and I'll contact you when I start getting the general outline off the project ready.

Questions, suggestions and all the "Huh?" you can type is also warmly welcomed.

Gee. I've always wanted to be a Swedish pop star. I'm at least willing to think about it.

Will there be screaming teenage girls? :)

file type?

can we use the default windows sound recorder and if so, what kind of sound file should we save it as, Liar? and where do we send it? This sounds very fun and I'm so in if I can manage the technical stuff.

Only if you provide them.

Or maybe you mean the screaming and running away kind? That might happen.

The Windows sound recorder saves WAV files, so that would, in fact, be a very good option since it's not compressed. Although, files can get awfully big.

Just a word of caution thoufgh. I've posted this request on several sites, and asked some local friends. And I only have room for some 10 to 15 spots on a cd. I might screen for a good variety of material, so don't put in any major work yet. Instead send me a M with a description of what you might want to do, and we'll take it from there. :)

Ah. Story of my life, 'cept the girls keep getting older.

I think the Windows Sound Recorder only lets you record a very limited time. Fifteen seconds, if I remember correctly.

I've used Total Recorder, which works pretty well and is fairly cheap, but it seems to fuck up iTunes.

Also: get a good microphone.

Goldwave (www.goldwave.com) is my weapon of choice. Can't say what it would do to iTunes, since I don't use that, but it's a helluva solid audio app. And the trial version is fully functional for what seems like forever.

I have a slew of self written songs if you would like to read a couple, how-ever I felt from your post your looking for written literature that you can put music to (correct?)

perhaps to find the final 10 - 15 (which I believe you'll recieve easily) you could post them like the author hangout's anthology, for opinions and selection <bigrin, anyway I wish you luck on this adventure, making a cd is extremely rewarding and a lot of fun, good luck!

oooh this sounds like a cool project! I will try to get something for you to consider once I get back home :)

There's a way to extend that time by tacking on, Tzara, and I think it's 30 secs? but if you just add on to it you can make it much longer. I've stitched together 3 minute pieces anyway. I'd be happy to chat sometime about how if you like. Cheers.

Fecking awsome

Bloody yes, mate. count me in on this. I have experimented with this a little, usually a jazz trio in the background and trying to flow my words with the music. Sometimes works, sometimes sucks so bad I want to hurl.
Let me know what I need to do to get the recordings to you.

BUMPing this for those who expressed an interrest to participate.

I try to work on one or two of those tunes at the time, and one of the two I'm working on just got put on hiatus until mid winter. So if anyone of you is ready to roll, send me a message. :)

It sounds a great project. I wouldn't mind giving it a go if I can get a good recording quality.

I'm definitely in - will read my own work. have several ideas for contributions - would you want me to record and send all of them? also, via email or otherwise? and what type of work... would there be a theme????
