Size of the story: Approximately 4100 words. This may be a tad inaccurate, though; I started counting the words but lost count after the first few paragraphs. Thus, I decided to take the easy way out and counted the individual characters, then divided that number by the average word length of 5.7. Righto.

Abstract: Young woman returns to her childhood sanctuary, and to the unique creature living there.

What is requested:

Firstly, I paid attention during junior high English class, so spelling, punctuation, grammar, and mechanics should require minor work if any. I am primarily seeking critique on the plot and the "flow" of the story. I would like someone to tell me if anything seems to be missing, or if there is something that would enrich it. I am male and the protagonist female, so I would prefer to get the input of someone who could more easily identify with her (read: a female editor), to ensure that she is a believable character, but if another fellow wants to take a shot at it, I would oblige nonetheless. :)

I want to post a bump here; an editor did contact me in private and offered some appreciated input; however, I do want to get a third pair of eyes on this so as to make it as good as possible before I submit it, as I am somewhat of a perfectionist. It would be much appreciated.

Hey there!

Your story sounds pretty cool so far. I wouldn't mind giving it a look-see if you still need one. For proof that I can, indeed, write, you can hit my 'submissions' page. Pop me a line at k.ma.22@hotmail.com, and I'll see what I can do for you.

Lillian.
