i'm almost offended that no one is stealing my stories ;)

I don't think there's much at a practical level anyone can do with the lifters.

Stories written by Anonymous authors, posted on a site controlled by Anonymous owners, lifted to another site in another country owned by (no doubt) Anonymous owners...now *there's* a serious legal action.

What are the damages? Our stories make no money and are hardly literature.

Lit is #1 in terms of traffic by a long stretch in the world of naughty amateur story repositories; as long as L&M's hit count stays massive, who really cares?

De minimus non curat lex.

I've only got one to steal. If someone wants to post it somewhere else and steal the credit for it what can I logically do about it?

Spankings for 20 dollars!? Sweet Jebus, Christmas has come early!

I think this analysis is wrong, for a number of reasons. At the individual level, Lance has a bit of a case, but I can see a damage in future value, in that a story posted only at Lit. might possibly be later anthologized, so as to make money for the author. But if his/her story is pirated around the 'net, it becomes essentially worthless. Who would pay to read it in an anthology. Further, a story could be taken down at literotica when it was published. Having it exist elsewhere precludes that.

However I believe the main objection is that the analysis essentially commits a fallacy of composition, in focusing on whether one writer of a lifted story has suffered only trivially. Consider the a block of stories at literotica; it is a means for literotica to attract people to read ads and spend money. We authors get publicity and practice and serve as 'bait' as 'attractors'. If "Chantal" appropriates a block, she takes away from Lit's ability to attract advertisers; indeed 'she' uses them as bait to attract her own (adding insult she deletes the authors' names, so they don't even get the benefits of posting at Lit.). Lit loses money in that Captain Stabbin is less willing to shell out, since the former readers now go to the satellite, ripoff sites.

You might say, what's a couple hundred stories of 10,000, but it could be that some of the best are being taken.

If you want an analogy, suppose an enterprising campus fellow tapes Seinfeld episodes, and deletes the original ads. He offers them gratis to other students, because he inserts a few ads he's chosen; and sells a bit of weed to these students on the side; the package is attractive since he doesn't need so many ads, because he didn't pay for the episodes.

Surely the network owning the block of Seinfeld episodes is being harmed. People on that campus won't watch their ad-filled re-runs, since the stuff is available free from the campus entrepreneur.

This is not unlike the guy at the bank who shaves a few hundredths of a cent a day from a vast number of accounts. No one account holder notices, true; but he is prosecutable since he gets a bundle [tens of thousands] that would have gone to the bank, something, of course, he has no right to do.
