They are requiring employers to hire known criminals.

Can you imagine the coming scenarios

You say you were fired from your last job and went to prison for forgery and embezzlement? That's okay. The EEOC says we have to hire you as a bank teller.

You say you were fired by the last elementary school where you worked and went to prison for child molestation? That's okay. The EEOC says we have to hire you as a teacher of little children.

You say you were fired by the last taxi company you worked for and went to prison for vehicular homocide and drunk driving? That's okay. The EEOC says we have to hire you as a cab driver.

Can anybody see any kind of sense here?:confused::confused:

Uh-Huh

The impetus for this “guidance” is that black men are nearly seven times more likely than white men to serve time in prison, and therefore refusals to hire convicts disproportionally impact blacks, according to a Wall Street Journal opinion piece by James Bovard, a libertarian author and lecturer whose books include “Freedom in Chains: The Rise of the State and the Demise of the Citizen.”

Somebody get Buttlicker101 his fainting couch!

The simple fact of the matter is that the court case Green v. Missouri Pacific Railroad...decided waaaay back in 1977...says you cannot arbitrarily decide to exclude all people convicted of a crime from employment consideration.

The key words are "arbitrarily" and "all".

There are certain circumstances where you obviously wouldn't want former convicts in certain positions: a bank robber working at a bank, Vetteman working with underage Vietnamese children, etc...and exceptions are provided by law.

It's not that simple. If a prospective employer fails to hire a felon, especially a black one, they are required to explain why, and they can actually be brought to court if the very biased EEOC decides it doesn't like the explanation.

I don't know if this is still true but, at one time, felons were not allowed to join the armed forces.

A lot of Republicans are going to be out of work after the next election. Have some compassion for them.

Fearmongering is what Republicans do best. We had plenty of it during the Bush years.

It's backfired a bit, so to speak, since Americans are now getting skittish about having so many deadly weapons around.

So instead, they turn to the Democrats in government as the big thing to fear.

"Look at all them criminals! It's not us being criminals for a change."

It's people like the notorious tax cheat, who is now the US treasurer.

Actually, I would say there are about as many Dems who are criminals as there are Reps. Crookedness is pandemic among politicians.

It IS "that simple".

The usage by companies of a person's PAST criminal history to deny them FUTURE employment is wrong.

The purpose of prison is for someone to "pay their debt to society."

By arbitrarily refusing to hire all people who've been convicted, we are condemning these people to returning to a life of crime to survive.

President Obama is on the right track here to break the cycle of criminality.
