And you know that the Budapest agreement is not an open-ended commitment of unlimited support, nor is it a binding treaty ratified by the US Senate. The Trump administration is providing critical military intelligence, selling scarce interceptors and other military assets, and providing financial aid. As Secretary Rubio noted, Ukraine would not exist without this support.

Russia regards Crimea as Russian, most of the population is ethnic Russian. When the British fought the Crimean War it was against Russia.

When Ukraine started to move politically towards Europe Putin saw that as a dangerous threat to Russia's border, much like how the US reacted when Cuba aligned with Russia.

The Trump administration is doing its best not to upset Putin, presumably because of the P (edophile) Tapes that Putin has, and Trump knows he has.
