Seamus or Chuck?

As some of you know, we lost of our cat back in November when she was hit by a car. After a few months of mourning our sweet lil' O'Malley, we decided to adopt another kitten.

Yesterday we went to the pound and found the most rambunctious, ornery little kitten you could posibly imagine. He's solid back with yellow/green eyes and about 12 weeks old. He's been tearing up the house since yesterday --though last night he took time off to sleep beside us ALL NIGHT LONG, purring all the while. (Awww!)

We can't decide on a name, however, so this is where your help is appreciated! The only two names we've come up with on our own are either Seamus the Grrrreat (be sure to say that with a Scottish accent!) and plain ol' Chuck. :D

Help us think of a name?

Other suggestions we've had:
Ornery
Sebastian
Templeton
Griffin
Sam
Tigger
Zazzou
(Mungo) Jerry
(Rumple) Teaser
Pierre

Inky?

Blackie?

Midnight?

Shadow?

Or you could name him Chuck and when you fed him from the table you could ask him: "Chuck, steak?" :D

(I love puns)

I vote Seamus. He doesn't look like a "Chuck."

I rather like Seamus, too, though Chuck has appeal simply because it's unusual (and it cracks me up!)

What would you call him for short? What's your cat's name?

I've named my last two cats Bloody Dagger and Ray Liotta. If I adopt another stray I'm thinking of naming it The Zookeeper.

I'd probably name him Ravage. That's just me though.

Dude! That looks like one tough pussy! :D

What about Dammit?

"C'mere, Damnit!" Oooh, I like!

I like unique names. We thought about naming him Charles Emerson Winchester, but that's such a mouthful. ;)

Rousseau is a good name for a black cat IMO.

Rumpleteaser was the sister- Mungojerrie was the brother;
Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer were a notorious couple of cats
As knockabout clowns, quick change comedians
Tight-rope walkers and acrobats

They had an extensive reputation
Made their home in Victoria Grove
That was merely their center of operation
For they were incurable given to rove

If the area window was found ajar
And the basement looked like a field of war
If a tile or two came loose on the roof
Which presently ceased to be waterproof

If the drawers were pulled out from bedroom chests
And you couldn't find one of your winter vests
Or after supper one of the girls
Suddenly missed her Woolworth pearls
Then the family would say, "It's that horrible cat!

It was Mungojerrie or Rumpleteazer!"
And most of the time they left it at that

Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer had an unusual gift of gab
They were highly efficient cat burglars
As well and remarkably smart at a smash and grab

They made their home in Victoria Grove
They had no regular occupation
They were plausible fellows who liked to engage
A friendly policeman in conversation

When the family assembled for Sunday dinner
Their minds made up that they wouldn't get thinner on
Argentine joint, potatoes and greens
Then the cook would appear from behind the scenes

And say in a voice that was broken with sorrow
"I'm afraid you must wait and have dinner tomorrow
The joint has gone from the oven like that!"
Then the family would say, "It's that horrible cat!

It was Mungojerrie or Rumpleteazer!"
And most of the time they left it at that

Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer had a wonderful way
Of working together
And some of the time you would say it was luck
And some of the time you would say it was weather

They'd go through the house like a hurricane
And no sober person could take his oath
Was it Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer?
Or could you have sworn that it mightn't be both?

When you heard a dining room smash
Or up from the pantry there came a loud crash
Or down from the library came a loud ping
From a vase which was commonly said to be Ming
Then the family would say: "Now which was which cat?

It was Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer
And there's nothing at all to be done about that!"
Otherwise- I vote for Chuck :)

What does "Rousseau" mean?

And anyone you quotes T. S. Elliot is A-OK in my book.

just my opinon but i allways like tika for a cats name if you do then great.....

For a male cat, too?

I had a real ornery cat growing up. When we first got him, I wanted to name him Fracas. I always liked that name for a spirited cat.

*sigh* Mom went with 'Seymour.'

tika is a male name used alot in asia cultures mostly for animals.......
not really a name i hear most humans get. :catroar:

Our black cat is Pantene. She's the only one of the current crop without a "human" style name.
The rest are Randall (the Red Vandal), Juliet (the neurotic Burmese princess), and Harry and Billy (the 2 heffalumps - babies we found dumped just after Christmas - Harry for Houdini for his feats in escaping all enclosure, and Billy cos we found them on Billy Goat Hill - the kids wouldn't let me call Harry "Goat")

My son reminds me that our young male is named "Flinky"

Our cats' names; Mojo Jackson (Jackie)
Ozymandias (ozzie)
Gris-Gris
Moo Ling (moo)
Trike (He's missing a leg of course)
Charlie (Named for her little mustache- we just couldn't call her Adolf!)
Clemintine
And the young Flinky.
Deceased and still remembered;
Shiv
Scratch
Flea (A Manx)
Ping
Aubry (After Beardsley)

Another good name for a male, black cat would be "Valentine" I don't know why

My last cat was called Principe (meaning prince)

Seamus sounds better than Chuck (that name makes me think of Cilla Black and her Liverpudlian twang, as well as cutting wood)

Seymour isn't so bad... isn't that the name of the cat on one of the catfood commercials?

For some reason I had it in my head that it sounded Hawaiian or Polynesian.

Ooooh, very cool! Thanks for the info, Stella. :)

Awww, Valentine. Or maybe, "Valentino?" We once had a cat named Vincenzo. :D He lived up to his name, believe me.

How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? :D

The jury is still out, but we've come up with another possible: Chester

Congrats on the new kitty--he's beautiful! He looks a bit like my Doc--glossy and pointy-eared. I'd go with Seamus if I were you--it seemed as if you were starting a sort of Scotch-Irish trend. You'll be calling him Seamus Dubh before you know it.

I quite like Seamus, it seems to suit him.

We used to have a big, black ex-Tom called Clarence. He looked like a bouncer. It was the funniest name, but when we found out that was what he was called (he adopted us) we just couldn't find one that suited him more. He used to come to his name like a dog - so funny. Poor old chap died a coupla years back from feline AIDS, but he was pretty old by then anyway.

We've had some great cats with some great names... We should do a thread where everyone lists the names of all the pets they've had - it'd be interesting to see how many were pet-like and how many 'human'...
we had one called Jeremy when I was little and we've one called Phoebe now... She's a bit of a Smelly Cat, see...

<sigh>
I miss my puss cats

Our cat has a variety of names, several of which he seems to answer to... They range from...

"Cat"

"Oi you"

"Get off that fucking table"

"No you aren't having any more you're too fat now"

"You got fleas again?"

"Bloody cat!!"

"Do you have to do that"

Right through to his real name...

"Monty"

Seamus or Chuck sound fine to me... but whatever you call him, remember you have to stand out front (with the neighbours listening) shouting it when you call him in

I rather like Seamus. He looks like a Seamus.

I had an all black cat years ago. Sweetest cat I ever owned. I named her 'Witch'.

The one before that was 'You Little Bastard!'.

Friends named their kitten "Do Loop" which, to the coders amongst us, is probably amusing.

:)

I will be in the same boat soon, as we're kitten shopping. One for me, one for the diva child. She wants calico. I want solid black or white.
