scrubbing a submission

Okay...

I began the submission process, uploaded my story text, filled in all the proper fields then hit "preview/publish." In the preview process, I realized I'd submitted the wrong file type and had lost my formatting (mostly italics, but there were some messed up apostrophes and hyphens). I attempted to correct that by trying to upload a file type that would support the formatting I wanted, but the site wants to hang onto that first upload, apparently and any attempts to "start over from scratch" are futile, because I keep getting told there is a file with that name already in the system.

After digging pretty deep, I asked essentially this same question to the admins: how do you completely scrub a submission and start totally from scratch, because it seems like, once you've begun the process, the system doesn't want to let it go.

I'm not new to the site, but it's been a while since I've posted much, so I'm rusty.

Thanks.

I had found the FAQs but at the time, none of them applied, since I hadn't actually gone all the way through to "publish." We'll see what happens.

Go to this page: https://www.literotica.com/my/#/works/stories/drafts?page=1 and click on the gear to the right of the title. There is a button in the dialog box that pops up that will allow you to delete the draft.

It's safest to copy/paste directly into the submission box and use HTML tags like <i> </i> for italics or <em> </i> for emphasis. But like Dave said, I know you can delete a pending story without any fuss.

That'll also let you preview exactly how the story will look on the site before submitting.

It won't do em-dashes without HTML. I asked about that.

There's a way to do it. The m-dash is just a character like any other, so, if you can enter that character from your keyboard, it'll "take" and be carried through the publishing process.

The difficulty is that there's no single set of instructions for entering an m-dash from all the different keyboards and devices which are out there.

One reliable way would be to copy the character from a Unicode character reference and then paste it into your work.

Or copy it from here: —

Thanks for the help, everybody. I've managed to delete what was in the system. I'll now try it again and pay closer attention to what I'm doing.
