I have a story that someone obviously hit with a 1 (no biggie, I think it's in the wrong category.)

So the average score was a 4.63 as of about 8am...

I logged on at 4:00 pm and there's been maybe two more votes and the score jumped to a 4.87? (Mathematically impossible).

Is there score correcting (i.e. the person who gave it one can change their vote) or is there something wonky going on in the backend?

Very... very strange.

If it's in the Valentines Day contest there are random sweeps to clear multiple or obvious 'bomb' votes.

If it's not - no idea without vote numbers before and after the change.

Not only there. Obvious bomb votes (for instance, the same IP rapidly littering the top lists with 1's) are removed on a regular basis. If a story had a copuple of those removed, and then got a couple of 5's instead, the result should be something like that.

Depending on how many votes there were initially, or course.

At 13 (maybe 14), it was a 4.63.
At 15, it jumped to a 4.87

If there are 'sweeps' then I definitely got caught in one, because two of my stories saw jumps and they were inside the top ten of the Romantic Couplings list.

I had another story with 100+ votes that jumped from 4.81 to 4.83 and that's hard with that many votes.

*cool*

Won't bug me anymore :)

And now back to our regularly scheduled writing.

Okay, now that's fucking funny.

Some one hit the same story with another 1 for vote #16.

Looks like the original scorer meant that 1 to stick!

*LAUGH*

Just when you think you're having a bad day, someone restores your faith in the world.

Trolls love to bomb stories entered in contests. They love to bomb stories when they reach the number one spot in their category. Hell, they love to bomb stories because they don't even like a specific category! (And why does someone read something in a category they hate? Idiots!)

Anyway, trolls suck. But what you're going through is fairly common around here, I'm afraid.

I haven't had a chance to read your story yet but it must be fairly good to attract the trolls.

Well done! And welcome to the AH!

Usually the stuff that doesn't make sense is when Laurel fixes stuff. I get 1-bombs all the time, I don't even have to say anything and they are removed. Sometimes it might take awhile, if you are ever not sure or think you got a vote that was way off you can click the "report this story" box at the bottom of your story and ask her to look into it. See ya.
