I suspect that the classic "scissoring position" that we think of was popularised in porn for performative reasons by, mainly male, directors for the benefit of male viewers?

Rubbing pussies is very real but scissoring is tiring and just lying face to face grinding (missionary style) is just as effective, less exhausting and more intimate. I have tried it, didn't like it much for the above reasons. the prevalence in porn is def for the camera and doesn't reflect reality.
