I once read a paper which purported that due to relativistic effects the CMB (microwave background) around the planet in the movie would have been blue shifted so much that said planet would be in a habitable zone.

I've spent a little bit of time on Mathematica playing with both preprogrammed Mandelbrot plots, and generating my own. It's satisfying seeing the graphics print to screen.
