I think I mentioned it on an earlier thread, but I got attacked by some insects Friday night whilst walking along the river. There were clouds of them, all zooming towards me, and I got bitten more times than I could count.

Well, here's the bad news. I've had a really nasty reaction to them. I got bitten all over one side of my face, and at first it looked like acne. Now it's starting to look like the bubonic plague in miniature, and still the itching continues.

Next week my school is being inspected, so there's no WAY I can take any time off work. I've been to the pharmacist and had some antihistamine cream, but she took one look at me and suggested I go to the doctor - which is something else I won't have the time to do next week.

I'm thinking about this rationally, and so far my best idea is a paper bag to put over my head.

Any other suggestions? :rose:

Antihistamines (the oral kind) -- Benadryl here in the States, but don't know what the brand would be there.

Apparently the oral ones make you sleepy. I might just have to bite the bullet at this rate though, and try and offset it with some Pro Plus. :(

One of those 'half-masks' a la Phantom of the Opera perhaps, or a long-haired wig ?

I've heard tea-tree ointment is bloody good for the itching and calms the redness. Try you local herbalist for it.

Soak it in Listerine, one of the mentholated flavors like cool mint or original. My horse gets summer itch (an allergic reaction to insect bites) and the only thing that has helped him so far has been Listerine. He actually has hair on his neck and chest this summer! You can also, if your eyes are sweelling, brew a couple pots of tea, then take the teabags, after they've cooled down, and lay them across your eyes. The tannic acid in them will help relieve the swelling and the pain.

Not all of them make you sleepy. I'm particularly susceptible to the drowsy effect of any meds, but Clarityn or many of the over the counter ones don't make me sleepy. Piriton would be the strongest stuff, they also use those as emergency meds for Anaphylactic shock from food allergic reactions. I can't take those, except at night, because they completely knock me out, and give me the shakes. But by god, they work.

Go to the pharmacist and ask for their advice.

Tea tree oil, diluted with a base oil, works well, and take anti-histamine tablets.

Otherwise it's the paper bag. :rose:
