Soooo, the roomies beagle has developed the habit of sneaking into the cats litterbox and consuming the cat shit that's in there. I thought something was up as the litterbox was a bit light lately.

Right now, both me and the cat are just staring at the dog. He's looking at the wall, with a guilty look on his face. Deathwish says that she feels sexually harassed and wants to talk to her H.R. rep.

The cat food and water already has to be on top of the washing machine because the little asshole will ignore his own food and water and will gorge himself to eat the cats food and drink all of her water. She's kicked his ass a few times when he tries to corner her but this shit is weird.

I suspect that this dog is retarded.

Okay, I admit I was nervous about opening this thread, but since it's you...

Willow agrees that this is bullshit (no pun intended) and Deathwish should sue.

I, also, was a bit . . . cautious about opening this thread.

My dad's dog used to do that. My dad and step mom called it 'eating litterbox tootsie rolls.' I called it flat out gross. :p

Biggest reason is usually because there is something lacking in their diets

Like, vitamin cat ass? This dog gets asinine healthy dog food, dog vitamin supplements, sees the vet like every damn month. He eats better than we do.

One thing I can think of is that he is annoyingly submissive like a zeta male. I walk thru the house and he just lays down on his back, curls his tail between his legs and basically shivers. He only obeys me for some reason tho, annoys the shit out of the roomie since he's her dog.

I'm thinking it's a beta pack sub behaviour thing. I can't even pee with the door open as he will try to climb into the stream.

That is actually quite common, the cat poop still has remnants of cat food in it. Dog food is very bland, cat food has more flavor therefore dogs like it.

I dunno - my dad's dog wasn't beta, she was the boss and the other dogs knew it. And my mom's dog is MAJORLY submissive, and she (the dog) doesn't eat kitty turds. The other thing that it occurred to me might be the cause is that my dad's dog was part beagle. Maybe it's a beagle thing.

I had a dog who did this and was told they do it to get particular nutrients their body needs...can't remember all the details, but the gist was it was common and considered normal. The one time he regretted it was when he tried it before the cat was actually finished doing what came naturally and didn't take kindly to being disturbed or rushed by a mere dog.:D

LOL!

Used to have several hunting dogs. A particular bulldog I had used to do that. She tried to eat the cat as well, but I managed to stop her (and no, trying to stop a bulldog from having lunch is not as easy as it sounds ) You have to be careful about that. That could very much give your dog heart worms.

As for being retarded, well, I have heard that pets can mimic their owners behavior. Might need to rethink that one.

(By the way, just joking Bett. :D)

I once had a dog that did that. He would often wait until my party guests were all sitting in the living room. Then, he'd go find him a nice big cat turd and bring it in onto the living room floor. Then, he'd chew on it like it was a Baby Ruth or a Tootsie Roll or something. My party guests would see the turd with some cat litter mixed in for a good crunch factor and ask "what kind of doggie treat is that?" I was always quite blunt and told them, "ah, it's cat shit". Sometimes, you could even smell it, when he was chewing on it, but he sure seemed to love them turds.

I've heard it's a nutrient thing, too. But, I've also heard it's not abnormal and so your dog isn't weird or anything. OK, maybe I should rethink that...he might be just a little weird.

Oh, and as to it being a beagle thing...my dog didn't have any beagle in him, as far as I knew. He was a heinz 57, but if he had any beagle in him, it sure didn't show. No droopy ears, no jouwls, no droopy eyes. He looked more like a poodle and skotty mix to me.

Actually, this could become a serious problem. Depending on what kind of material you use in the litter box, it might clog up the dog's intestinal tract.

they have pills (one brand is called deter) you can give to the cat that will make the poop taste "bad".

its very likely that there is nothing wrong with the beagle. coprophagia is very common and most times doesnt mean that the dog has a health problem.
