i like the idea....it brings out the beast in some and the romantic in others.

::lips curling upwards to grin in a sly movement glinting at the growing size of a fang::

i think however it would be something i have done before... on a bigger scale... very well

::turning away to face the moon::

it will be a challenge no less...

::taking a few steps against the wind and seperating into numerous bats that flutter away into the night leaving only the echo of his laughter::

ha ha ha ha ha....

whew *wiping brow* looks like more nightmares are on the way...

bats! LAUREL I VOTE FOR A BAT SMILIE!

;)

Or would the "scary stories" be more like horror, gothic, etc.?

What does it take to make a story, truly scary?

The movies often use a few devices. There's always the half-dressed, idiot girl calling out in the middle of the night. "Danny? Is that you?" There's always the lumbering, limping monster who couldn't chase down grandpa in his walker, catching up with an athletic brunette in the woods. Fog, darkness...

Don't get me wrong, I love the idea, but what does it take to make a story really scary?

------

Number one on my list would be, a real threat of physical danger -- possible maiming, death, or worse. And in a story, that would have to be setup early. We'd have to see a dead body, or see someone disappear and assume that it's likely they were strangled, mangled or otherwise done in. No?

Maybe, but we need something scary in keeping with Halloween, and something sexy in keeping with our Erotica Site.

How about the old Bob Hope theme song?

You know: "Fangs for the Mammaries."

Quasi, mammaries with fangs would be scary...

but then, i always thought teats on a bull would save a load of hassles too...

hmm well, i have to admit, i try to avoid reading scary books... and i've learnt to avoid watching scary stuff on tv, geez the nightmares have me screaming in the night.

i agree though, Judo (far out that AV is nice), physical danger to oneself is darn scary.

however, scene setting is my number one choice. if the scene is set correctly, i'm right slam in the middle of whatever is about to happen. mist, dark, cold three things imperative to scaring the hell outa me.

the second thing for me is the unexpected. being shocked has my brain spinning with anticipation for more possible shocks.
and my imagination always jumps ahead thinking the worst.

Personally, when I write (though I don't write erotic fiction, so I don't know if my opinion will carry any weight with you guys or not) I just write about what would scare me. Chances are that there will be something in your writing that will give someone else the willies, even if it's just something tiny like a spider running across a window sill or the like. But when I'm reading something scary, I think it's usually the language that spooks me the most. Some writers have such a way with words that they could take the most banal scene and make it scary just by altering some words.

hmm scary...

anything can be scary if you look at it.

well lets see... only problem i thought was how the heck do you make sex scary? one way is obvious... STD
but hey... i dont know. im probably going to be challenged by the topic im to write. so yes. any suggestions on what to write email me folks. alright. laters.
