One of my ancrstors wrote and published her autobiohraphy back in 1869. It features lotsa genealogical and historical records. She connects my Johnson Line tp Lichfield, Staffordshire and Dr Samuel Johnson. Sam invented the dictionary.
Other records identify Sam as the nephew of my ancestor, Benjamin Johnson. All 4 Johnson brothers as printer-publisher-writers. Brother Michael was Sam's father. Brother Sam became a bomb thrower who worked to get JAMES II off the throne, replaced by William and Mary. Uncle Sam's reward was 300 lashes.
Lichfield is close to Birmingham. Very close. 18 miles.
Now I find Ben Jonson was at Lichfield about 1620, about the time the time the grandfather, William Johnson, was born. Ben was friends of William Shakespeare and Francis Bacon. The JOHNSONIAN GLEANINGS suggest William Johnson came from notable family but don't say who.
