Scam?

Is IMNotABot doing all this for free, or soliciting money?
They solicited money in public. We are not talking out our asses.

And it wasn't about giving their work away vs. doing something for free. They wanted authors to pay them to adapt the author's work.

The fact that they have made all these pitches both in public and in unsolicited PMs, as well as the fact that multiple accounts are making the same pitch in PMs, as well as the fact that the original public post was removed by @Literotica because it was spam... that's a lot of suggestive facts.

Absolutely I think Literotica should introduce a policy to fix this issue For example Literotica could approve only those users who verify their identity with an ID card this would reduce the number of scammers and also prevent minors from accessing the site
This site refuses to move away from anonymous and never will which is part of why it's easy to spam here.

I received a second one from someone who at least referenced on of the works and seems to be legit (if new) so I'm not going to paste her message here.

Both received this morning. This is on top of the one that I received two days ago which I think lots of other people did. It almost feels like someone's linked Lit* somewhere where lots of artists look for leads.

Edit: after looking at the comic style of the second artist to contact me, I don't know... it feels quite similar to the first. Same host site for their example portfolios too. I'm suddenly suspicious that we've popped up on a list of "here's a bunch of saps to sell commissions to."

Will be interesting to see how many more land over the next week.
They obviously didn't research well enough; this is as cheap of a platform as you'll find.

Which is my point ... Does Lit allow solicitations for money?

Lol asking for money and charging for your skill are two completely different things asking for money to commit fraud or scam is one thing but earning money honorably for your work is something else if here you’re talking about those who are asking in the wrong way or scamming thats correct But if you are saying that asking for money for your skill and work is wrong then you are totally mistaken
For example you’ve probably heard about online shopping scams now if you work online and deliver the correct product to the customer you are doing the right thing On the other hand there is someone who commits fraud and doesn’t deliver the right product
Both are not the same one is doing it correctly the other is wrong i hope now you understand

Advertising or offering a product or service in exchange for payment is solicitation.
ennnn lol this is nonsense it sounds like something childish are you saying that all the work people do in the world where they offer their services is solicitation? Does that mean everyone should work for free? Are you some child from the Stone age who fell asleep back then and just woke up now?

I get emails all the time from fake reading groups, wanting to discuss one of my stories in their online meetings. Don't answer the people, they are trying to engage and will need something from you at somepoint that shouldn't share with them.

That would kill the site.

Site rules.

Likely to be stolen content from other artists, AI generated, or both. I've seen this on a Discord server that isn't even about erotica, and the portfolio is always this.

No, we aren't, we're saying you can't solicit paid work here.

Darling, I have TWO stories published here as of now that have content that would get me arrested in my country, and add to it the fact that porn is illegal and not clearly defined by law, the blue boys can throw me on prison because they see it as pornography, and they'll have even more evidence about it because I keep a sex journal. Due process doesn't exist in here, and defense lawyers are already on the government's pocket. Do you really think I'll give my ID to Literotica?! I've been politically pursued since 2024!

Of course, there is nothing in the TOS that prevents an artist from asking a writer for approval to use their work as the basis for a comic the artist subsequently sells. Or share the revenue from.

It's a matter of who bears the risk:
• writer pays artist = writer bears 100% of the risk (and violates TOS)
• artist pays writer = they carry the risk (not an issue for TOS)
• artist & writer share risk = now we are talking

Mhm yesh that makes sense

For what it's worth, I've received multiple messages/comments (on another site) from people* "wanting" to make my story into a comic book.

They all have four things in common:
- they claim to have read my story when I believe they haven't, and they say positive things about my story**
- They don't include any information about pricing to the extent where they don't make it clear that they are offering a paid service or something that isn't just fan fiction
- the message is a copy/paste (all the comments on other people's stories are identical to theirs on mine
- They all try to get me to talk off platform.

A person legitimately and honestly trying to sell me their services would not do the first two things. While they may not be able to give an exact quote without discussion (understandable), they'd make it clear if they were looking for me to buy, or do a profit share, or even if they were open to multiple options.

What these spammers are trying to do is stroke my ego ("oh!!! You are an amazing writer! I love the visual imagery in your work! I'd love to make a comic of it!") and get my off-platform contact details before informing me they're actually trying to sell something.

Compare this to a person who'd do it honestly, they'd be open that they were trying to sell me something, they wouldn't lie and say they'd read my work when they hadn't or say they enjoyed it when they hadn't etc.

A good business relationship shouldn't, in my opinion, be based on dishonesty. If I wanted to commission someone, I'd want someone who was, based on my experiences with them, honest. And to be clear, I have nothing against people selling their art provided they are honest, fair, follow the TOS of the sites they're on etc.

*I am here speaking about the people who've contacted me, not the ones being discussed in this thread.

**if anyone is interested, I can give examples of why I believe they haven't read my story.

You want to know the advantage of not being a good authors like the rest of you?
The scammers won't waste their time with me!

Actually, I had someone trying to befriend me via PM. The person had history of posting (55 - 6 months) and asked nice questions. She(?) referred to one of my works and we talked. Then she asked for my whatsapp or insta (don't have one). Once I told her(?) that I was not interested, she (?) went silent.

Probably a blackmail attempt e.g. now that we know who you are, give us bitcoins or we will tell your network that you write porn.

Do you go to a haberdasher for your tinfoil hat, or do you buy off the rack?

Also, I've been contacted by the person in this thread, and one other who didn't start the whole thing until after we had started chatting on Telegram and pawned me off on their accomplice. The former was the same webcomic thing (how would my lame ass story make a good webcomic? Plus it's not complete) and the latter was the whole "oh let me make abstract art out of your photos" thing. I got as far as the email with the check that's $1k more than the bullshit agreement before I stopped replying.
