Hi.
Me and trying to write erotic literature go rather far back. Might've had sparks of interests from reading Penthouse letters and Vladimir Nabokov excerpts in Playboy. Dirty sections in mainstream novels.
I had hot and cold seasons on Literotica under another name (first joined in late 2004). I could let it get to me that my stuff tended to not appeal to but an occasional (and forget that the learning will always be unending), but very appreciative reader, for which I was extra-double-appreciative. Seemed find a home over on the Poetry side. I do greatly enjoy playing with lines breaks and sounds. But still felt attracted to writing stories. Yet encountered the notorious struggle to finish things.

So then I ventured into publishing on various platforms (under this Literotica name) but haven't submitted a completed manuscript in well over 1 year. Got a few I peck at and determine to stay with just one of them until completion (sometimes select one and realize its beginnings were over a decade ago), and another week or two go by, doing other things.

I guess this is just difficult stuff for some of us. The only reason for not quitting is just... I can't. Just can't. Always come back to it.

Because I find it so fascinating. Things that would be bad in reality but can be erotically exciting in the context of a tale. I mean I look back at all I expended the pleasurable efforts to think of and try to write, and if there is but one that does/did not include at least some form or degree of forced sex, or at least highly coerced sex, well it's hiding very well. What is it? Why?

So anyway I rejoined lately (maybe it will help get in the swing of things to work back up to lengthier attempts). Haven't submitted or resubmitted anything yet. May or may not do so soon. Just had this on my mind lately. Here seems the best place to express it.

Welcome back! And may your story ideas flow freely.
got about 3 I'm honing in on, one began maybe 3 years ago. Keep getting so far and, "nope that's not it. Gotta start over". Maybe leftover paragraphs could be ideas for short stories.

I spent 15 years, or something like that, reading erotic stories online and thinking about writing one before I actually posted one for the first time. So, I relate.

My suggestion: take on a story that's not too long. Just sit down and get it done and see what happens.

The best times have been when the mind is focused or is aware or cares about little else. Even if some phases were bumpy. Hey you gotta roll with the punches.
I do have a blog where I sometimes post short pieces/teasers but it's an extremely image-driven platform. It's great for what it is but I slowly began to miss the atmosphere of an active forum.

Getting this funny feeling that these last 3.5 years of blogging mostly image-driven reblogs, occasionally writing brief paragraphs maybe alone or to accompany the image, has not been beneficial to maintaining sustained focus on one project until completion, especially something like erotic prose that shoots for a minimum of 3-5k.

Could be. It's easy to get used to picking the low-hanging grapes.

And worse? The low end of what readers here seem to reward is probably more like 5k-7k words.
