Your comment made me think of this guy I saw in Scotland once - he was on the corner by the Walter Scott Memorial (I think he's something of a local character), all dressed in traditional Scottish dress. The Scots are a very proud race, and he had a sign that said "English Spoken here" Underneath he had written "American Understood" .....
