Thought of another spin:

The princess does need saving and is imprisoned but what she needs saving from is boredom.

Princess is locked away in a convent at an early age until her betrothed is determined. Due to a number of political upheavals however, her kingdom is absorbed by another one and people forget she exists/paperwork with her on it is lost/mixed up. The convent however has strict instructions: she must remain a virgin and her identity must be kept a secret. So the convent just locks her up. She has all her physical needs met but she is lonely, horny, and bored.

Her savior is someone irregular: maybe another forgotten princess, maybe a newer member of the convent, maybe an outsider who snuck in (like a goblin or someone). The princess is somewhat scared of the outside world but she’ll definitely be up for rescuing from boredom and unmet desires
