Through overuse they are fast becoming an endagered species. Already the 
has been devalued from its true meaning of a gentle friendly smile. As more and more of them are used on one post they cease to become a symbol of friendliness but take on the appearance of a row of smirking drunks...
And those of us who use our smileys sparingly are left with the laughing hyena
or the fly eating frog 
to convey friendliness and peace.
Not quite the same thing as our beloved

Only one smiley per post
Then they will become self sustaining again instead of going the way of many of this planets species...
