Evan could see the energy building once again between the two women. Though pleased with the progress of the cutting and baling he knew if left alone the two would soon be tearing each others eyes out.
"We call this a slow walk loading."
He explained and showed them the ancient but massive flat bed truck.
"One of you drives, the other rides on back, the driver keeping the truck in granny gear and going no faster than a man can slow walk. I'll snag each square bale and toss them to the rider, who stacks them from the front and center first, then out and backwards, understood?"
Grinning he stretched his arm and chest muscles, then looked to Alex and pointed to the back of the truck.
"Don't think I'm doing you a favor by making you ride. The taller the pile grows the more you have to scramble. I can make sure the bales get to you, but YOU have to make sure you stay ON the truck, I can't guarntee I'll always be there to catch you."
And with that they began. Stacies showing quickly she was a pro at driving and keeping the left side of the truck close to the bales while Alex proved her ability and grace with each bale she caught and stacked.
Despite the smoothness of it the sun came up hot and high, and all three were soaked through before they ended up close to the flowing creeks edge.
"Good job Ladies"
Evan put his hands on Alex's waist and lowered her gently to the ground, then offered Stacie a helping hand out of the rusted cab.
"We've done a good half days work and the yard looks amazing!"
And it did, the gras under as Alex predicted grew full and healthy, it's rich green color adding beauty to the now visible flower gardens and the creek that could be seen flowing under the bridge.
"The Cemetary I'll do myself, in time, whenI feel ready to say hello to my family again"
He spoke softly and turned to the grass filled family plot, then grinned and look back at the Ladies.
"Coffee, tea or me Ladies...Lets go get those drinks and then find that cool basement we've all been dreaming about!"
