Sarah Palin alleged to have used cocaine and marijuana

By Chris McGreal in Washington
The Guardian, Wednesday 14 September 2011

A highly anticipated biography of Sarah Palin alleges the Tea Party politician and former Republican vice presidential candidate used cocaine and marijuana, and had a long affair with her husband's business partner.

The Rogue: Searching for the Real Sarah Palin by the respected if controversial author, Joe McGinniss, claims Palin was seen snorting cocaine off the top of a 55-gallon drum while snowmobiling with friends. It also alleges she smoked marijuana with a professor while at Mat-Su College in Alaska.

The book, scheduled for release in the US next week, quotes a Palin family friend as alleging that Palin's husband, Todd, also used cocaine and that he was "on the end of the straw plenty".

McGinniss, who made his name as the young author of a study of Richard Nixon's campaign, The Selling of the President 1968, angered Palin by moving in next door to her home in Wasilla, Alaska. Palin warned him to not to spy on her family, saying she suspected he was trying to look in her daughter's window from his property.

The book claims to substantiate allegations previously denied by Palin that she had an affair for six months in the mid-1990s with her husband's business partner. McGinniss writes that the relationship put considerable pressure on Palin's marriage.

Anticipation of the book's release has been heightened by a deal McGinniss made with Garry Trudeau, author of the Doonesbury cartoon, to include extracts in the strip read by an imaginary Fox News reporter who moved in next door to McGinniss.

Some US newspapers have declined to run the strip which includes lines claiming that "Palin isn't comfortable in the presence of dark skinned people".

What next?

One thing you can say for Sarah, she's an all American.

Too bad she doesn't want everybody to have the Liberty she has taken for herself.

She also disproved the adage "once you go black you never go back."

"Some US newspapers have declined to run the strip which includes lines claiming that "Palin isn't comfortable in the presence of dark skinned people".

One of the other allegations in that book seems to put the lie to that statement - or at least for a period in the 80's it does :D

I wonder if Sarah will publicly reply to this. She usually does not miss an opportunity to make an appearance and speak her mind, but the subject here is probably not to her liking.

If it's put down on paper it's gotta be true.

If she (or, more likely, her husband's partner, as he's more a private citizen and thus has more protections against libel) doesn't successfully sue, it just might be. I think perhaps we should take a look at the fonts used on her birth certificate while we're at it.

So Frank Zappa already sang about Palin 30 years ago?

Chop a line now...
Cocaine decisions...
You are a person with a snow-job
You got a fancy gotta go job
Where the cocaine decisions that you make today
Will mean that millions somewhere else
Will do it your way

Cocaine decisions...
You are a person who is high class
You are a person not in my class
And the cocaine decisions that you make today
Will mean nothing later on
When you get nose decay

I don't wanna know
'Bout the things that you pull
Outta your nose
Or where they goes
But if you are wasted
From the stuff you're stickin' in it
I get madder every day
'Cause what you do 'n' what you say
Affects my life in such a way
I learn to hate it every minute!

Cocaine decisions...
You are a doctor or a lawyer
You got an office with a foyer
And the cocaine decisions that you make today
Will not be discovered till it's over 'n' done
By the customers you hold at bay

Cocaine decisions...
You are a movie business guy
You got accountants who supply
The necessary figures
To determine when you fly
To Acapulco
Where all your friends go

Cocaine decisions...
We must watch the stuff you make
You have let us eat the cake
While your accountants tell you Yes Yes Yes
You make EXPENSIVE UGLINESS
(How do you do it? -- Let me guess...)
Cocaine decisions...

Birth certificates, hahahaha, where's Trump in all of this?

Unfortunately, he's trying to buy a house in my near neighborhood (Albemarle House--it was once for sale for $100,000,000. He's trying to force the number under the current $17,000,000 asking price).

The allegations may or may not be true. I consider them to be about as reliable as other stuff written by National Enquirer writers.

Which is to say "not very" but sometimes they include true stories amongst all the alien abductions and pig and human hybrids and their other usual features.

Well, as far as the sex goes, if the business partner just blusters "it's not true," and doesn't sue for libel, we'll pretty much know about that part. And it's not a National Enquirer article; it's a mainstream publisher book.

I want to see her birth certificate, and I want it to be delivered to me by two Democrats who were there at the birth.

I must admit my favorite Sarah Palin moment was when she told the story of Paul Revere's ride. What a hoot that was!

Sarah had just taken the tour of Philadelphia with her family, but I guess her memory retention is not the best. I will say I am glad this is coming out, now, before the race gets any thicker. So many Christians, especially women in the South, needed to know the truth about her.

Think again. When the devout are confronted with a Truth Vs. Faith dilemna, Faith wins every time.

sounds like Bill Clinton to me

A bit, yes. Except for the tackiness of the public persona (Oh, and comparitively, in intellectual terms--which mean something to me in assessing presidential timber--Clinton is sharp as a tack and Palin is dumb as a rock). And did you support Bill Clinton in this regard? And, if not, then you don't support Palin in this regard either. Right? ;)

I was forced to reside in Franklin, Tennessee, an upper-crust, old southern money city near Nashville, when Sarah and Company rolled through Brentwood on her book signing tour. I do believe the women in that area will appreciate the truth, anyway.

If SP is, indeed, a role model for Christian conservative coeds, I'd suggest there are a lot of tall black guys looking forward to basketball season.

I agree with you about the reliability of the allegations, Box. Sarah Palin simply does not possess the wherewithal to use cocaine or marijuana. Hell, she wouldn't even know which end to stick her tampon in if it wasn't for her tight circle of advisors.

She might well have smoked MJ during her youth, and maybe even used coke. I've used the former but not the latter, but I'm sure I could learn how to snort it, given the inclination and the opportunity.

I don't know why she has gotten the rep. for being dumb. She has a degree in Journalism and was smart enough to be elected mayor and later governor, and held her own during VP debates. Of course, against a knucklehead like Biden, that would be simple.

After the 2008 elections, there were some anon. comments from a McCain staffer, and these comments seem to have been accepted without question by many people, including some on this forum. I give as little credence to these comments as I give to something written by a writer for The National Enquirer or similar scandal sheet, especially by a writer who personally dislikes SP. I realize this is a book being discussed, but the writer can make up lies in a book just as well as in a periodical, maybe even more easily.

Some allegations are obviously untrue. You cannot carry a 55 gallon drum on a snowmobile. These are basically motorcycles on skis, and there wouldn't be enough room. Even from a smaller surface, the ride would be too unstable to do anything but hang on and steer with both hands. Maybe somebody said she had drunk Coke, meaning Coca Cola through a straw, and her husband did the same. I would have no problem believing that.

Sarah must be more intelligent than she appears, at times, and I find it highly believable that she smoked pot, long ago, and that she and her husband still like a good snort, now and again, especially while snowmobiling. I would like to point out that the 55 gallon drum mentioned in the article most probably was already at a stopping place or a launching place, to be used by all as a table surface, a very common occurrence up north. No one hauls them around with them, really.
