Here is an interesting topic, even more so, with the holiday season upon us. I heard on a New York radio station this past week, a topic about Santa Claus and children. It was 100% of the commercial side, not mixing the commercial vs. religious. The DJ was taking callers comments about this subject:

Does your house celebrate Christmas with the full belief and story etc., behind Santa Claus and if so, do you feel it is right to lie to your kids about something that may or may not be real at all?

My viewpoints on this are as follows:

For starters I DO know the true origin of Christmas, religiously speaking. So this subject does not have to do with that side, but instead solely of the commercial side!
I am just 18 and had grown up with the full belief that Santa was real. Along with all the flying reindeer, the chimney entrance, and so on..I believed it all and must say, I'm so happy I grew up in a household that enjoyed THAT side of Christmas. I loved taking that trip to the mall to sit on Santa's lap. I loved leaving milk and cookies out for Santa, and carrots for his reindeer. I loved being sent to bed with the knowledge that the jolly man would soon arrive, I loved waking up the next morning and seeing only crumbs left on the cookie plate, and seeing stockings full of goodies and presents under the tree, some tagged from Santa himself! I loved and still do love the entire story behind Santa Claus!

Some callers called in with the same viewpoints as I, but others looked at it differently. Some believed that telling that story to their children was flat out lying, which we all know is wrong. But is it bad to lie when the lie is for good fun and does not hurt anyone at all? Some said their children have been told from the start, the truth, that Santa is not real and they do not celebrate Christmas with traditions such as stockings by the fireplace, cookies and milk left out, etc. In fact some callers said they don't even have a single decoration with a picture of Santa, because its all a lie.

I had some concerns and opinions. One, I felt it is sad that so many children are missing out on something that I found to be so exciting and enjoyable and still do now as a young lady. That thought of going to bed as a youngster on Christmas Eve knowing Santa would soon arrive was incredible. Also, how do those children portray THAT side of Christmas to kids at school that DO believe in Santa Claus?

I for one, will hopefully have kids one day. When I do, I will keep the tradition of Santa Claus going strong. I will also enforce the true meaning of Christmas to them. So they will know the origin and true meaning of the day, but will also enjoy the fun and commercial side of it! What about you???

Santa Claus Is a Christian

Ho, ho, come forth, and flee from the land of the north, saith the LORD: for I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the heaven, saith the LORD. Zechariah 2:6 KJV

Allow me to do some commentary.

What does Santa Claus? Ho,Ho.

Who Does the LORD Speak to in the Verse? Ho,Ho.

Where does Santa Claus Live? North Pole

Where does the LORD tell Ho, Ho to leave? the land of the north.

Where does Santa Goe when he leaves the north pole? All over the world giving presents.

Where has the LORD Spread Ho,Ho? Abroad as the four winds of the heaven.

Case Closed Santa was a christian farmer, hoe, hoeing in north not doing anything for God. So God gave him a ministry of deliveiering presents to children of the word in a spirit of love.

P.S- The thoughts above are mine and are parody/spoof. No Church in the known world support such a belief as this.

Santa Claus is a construct of big retail that is perpetuated for their own fiendish purposes by the Pharmaceutical Cartels, the Shriners and the Coca-Cola Corporation

Ho Ho Ho...Santa and his Ho's!

I am Santa Claus!

I moonlight at Easter for Beer money...Christmas is the major gig!

Now all you ladies come and sit on Santa's lap and tell me what you want;)

We used to do the Santa thing...kids figured it out though. Hard to fool them after 23 or so...

Dixon?

Nah...he's too busy stealing Christmas from the Who's.

Even their Roast Beast!

What does a thread on Literotica and Amtrak have in common..

Came into this one late,,, sheesh!! And I'm replying without reading any other replies.

Damn right Santa is real.

There isn't, as we all think we know, some physical being that is 'THE' Santa. It's more a way of thinking and treating your family and friends,,, and some total strangers as well. A spirit if you will. The spirit of giving, of helping, of caring. This spirit is focused more at Christmas to be sure, which may or may not be sad,,, but also isn't the point of this reply.

I grew up with the innocent belief of a real Santa,,, wouldn't trade it for anything. It was one of the most terrific times of my life,,, and continues to serve as a reminder that there is magic in this life. I have taught my kids that there IS a Santa, complete the ability to know whether or not they have been good or bad,,, the ability to reach every house in one night,,, and chimney or not, that he can still get in. When the kids reach the point of 'knowing' that Santa is not real,,, then I begin to teach them that a spirit of Santa exists,,, cause at that point they are old enough to go from the "give me's" stage of childhood, to experiencing the joys of giving to others and helping to make other people happy.

To the parents and adults that believe telling kids about a Santa that flys about is wrong,,, then I simply say BAH-HUM-BUG!!! They are the ones that are missing out on the magic and thrills that come with the Santa belief.

And if anyone believes that the whole Santa idea is all about retail commercialism,,, then you are way too cynical and are missing the point as well.

Christmas, Santa and the Christ child birth are just about giving, caring and sharing,,, both for the kids AND the adults. This is the one time each year that we set aside to celebrate this spirit and to focus on making sure that it survives.

Maybe this a simplistic way of viewing this,,, that's fine. I'm your basic simple person that believes that most of what I do in this life is done for kids,,, mine, my relatives, total strangers, it makes no difference.

Now that I have read the replies,,, looks as if most folks are side stepping the question,,,

This serious reply is ended,,,

Continue on with the fun and games,,, :)

I think the ideals that we have put forth to our children concerning Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, etc..are like folk lore. Passed down from generation to generation, traditions so to speak. These charachters may not be living breathing personas, but for the child it gives them a dream, something to look forward to, something to wait for in anticipation. There is nothing like the hopeful look upon a child's face, the eyes lighting up, the whole face engulfed in pure pleasure of the thought that Santa is going to bring them good things. For some children, every day life is so difficult, that they need the joy which these fictional characters can bring them. As far as these characters being deceptive, NO!, or else they wouldn't have survived thru the years. We all have gone thru the experience of finding out that Santais not real, but what do we do??? When we have children, we repeat the act which our parents did for us, gaining as much joy from the act as the children. Hidden in each of us is a child's heart, it just is more difficult to show as we grow older.

...those are awesome!

CW and Ksss...those are incredible replies! They brought tears to my eyes! I feel this was one of the most unique threads ever started and the response has been super. And yes, I laughed so hard at the responses that my eyes filled with tears. But now my eyes have filled with tears from responses that really hit the heart of the matter. Very serious replies to what started out as a serious issue. It is nice to see that there are people other than myself that will keep "Santa" alive and well for many generations to come! Thank you again for some very warm and touching replies!
