it's also the state where bush's people used john mccain's nonexistant illegimate black baby to win the 2000 presidential primary and knock mccain out of the race. i remember it because i was living there at the time and it really pissed me off that people not only bought it, but they also thought it mattered. i still like south carolina in a lot of ways, but it is a fucked up little state.

That was a long time ago, and Thurmond was a young Dem. at the time. In the South at that time, the Dems were "the white man's party." Having an affair with a "member of an inferior race" even knocking her up, was not something that bothered Dems.

Maybe you know everything, but your post was misleading. If people didn't know, they might have thought Thurmond was a life-long Rep. and that the Jim Crow party was the Republicans, although it was actually the Dems.

Sanford is a louse and I applauded Jenny Sanford for not standing by her cheating man. But since Elizabth colbert Busch is a convicted felon the morality card is hypocritcly played by the left.
