White House hopeful Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Wednesday released a $2.5 trillion plan to guarantee housing for every American.

Sanders said the plan would “guarantee every American — regardless of income — a fundamental right to a safe, decent, accessible, and affordable home” and would be paid for by a wealth tax on the top one-tenth of 1 percent of income earners.

The 'Free Shit Free For All'......goes on......

Who can out free shit the other, in the Dem candidate Thunderdome???
Forty-two socialists enter.....one socialist leaves.

Bernie has no trouble dropping pie-in-the-sky prohibitive grandiose spending plan after plan into the mix. He doesn't have any experience or track record of actually delivering anything. And there are voters who are easily fooled (as in, look who's president now) and will follow wishful thinking.

The problem with Bernie is he can't do basic arithmetic. You couldn't pay for his plan by taxing the tenth of 1% if you tax them at 100%., and they left their accountants and lawyers home and just cheerfully paid 100% of everything they earned and didn't decide to just stop doing whatever it is they do to earn the money once they realize that it's just going to be plundered anyway.

Then there's a little problem of the 99.9% voting to plunder the .1% without representation. Seems to me that the morality of that mindset was decided here in America a couple of centuries ago.

It's even worse than that. The percentage is not 1%; it is .1%. Assuming there are 300,000,000 earners in the US, which number is probably quite high, that 2.5 trillion would have to be collected from 300,000 persons. Do the math and see how this works out.

Rest assured, Bernie Sanders will NEVER be president of the United States.

Not if he comes up with crazy ideas like this. And the housing is in addition to free medical care and college and whatever else The Bern dreams up.

At the same time, there are some who would vote for him, including some on this forum.

Good catch. I've gotten so used to hearing about the evil 1% that I didn't even notice that parse. That is a ridiculously small number of people.

I don't have the IRS figures handy but our country is funded mostly by going further and further into debt but those that actually pay federal taxes are less than half of the population. Of all the money collected by the treasury Department though if you look at a chart there are a large number of people paying a very small portion of it and the 1% and the tenth of 1% do already pay the vast majority of what is paid.

I used to think I liked him. I was wrong!

In principle when I first read reportage on a relatively unknown, obviously inexperienced an d certainly unqualified candidate named Barack Hussein Obama running against John Sidney McCain a politician that I knew quite well, I would have voted for Obama, the devil I did not know, over McCain the devil I did.

All I knew about him was what I had read in print. I was living in the middle of nowhere at the time working very long hours in a mine with a very long commute to and from the minde, so 14 and 1/2 hours door-to-door with no access to any media other than news breaks on the half-hour on one of four available radio stations.

All I knew was that people were talking about him as this highly charismatic, brilliant orator, with the ability to inspire people from all walks of life with his soaring rhetoric. I felt like what we needed economically at that time was another Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan in addition to being conservative and in favor of sensible economic policies primarily lifted us out of the malaise of the Carter administration's horrific economic policies by inspiring Americans that things would get better. As people believed things would get better they worked, planned, and invested as if it would . . .and it became a self-fulfilling prophecy. I don't think you needed someone on the right to accomplish that.

I got satellite TV hooked up so that myself and my then-wife could have a better picture about what was going on in the outside world. The day I saw Barack off the cuff and off teleprompter talk to Joe the plumber I knew that he was not only a horrible choice for president but also a horrible human being. Smug, entitled, pretentious, and condescending. This, coming from a man who had done nothing in his entire life to merit any of the accolades that have been heaped upon him. By the way that fumbling ramble that he had with Joe the plumber was actually him directly borrowing from Elizabeth Warren. Those were Elizabeth Warren's words that he was inarticulately trying to deliver. His campaign liked that bit from Elizabeth Warren and they were planning on including it in some future speech and he jumped the gun. He got jumped so hard for that that they backed off from it. Look at where we are now. Elzabeth Warren spouting the same nonsense she spouted back then and that Barack spouted about Joe the plumber is now mainstream and very well received.

His rhetoric unlike the reportage of his rhetoric was not nearly as polished as it was reported. This was a case of as Harry Reid pointed out he was a black guy with no negro dialect unless he wanted to. The fawning press was pandering. Nobody then (or now) was willing to say the Emperor had no clothes.. Those speeches were mediocre at best and were not aimed at inclusiveness and uniting the country towards a bright and prosperous future. It was classic democratic demagoguery with identity politics trying to divide the population into those who would vote for him out of envy vs actual producers which cynically he realized were a smaller percentage than those that would benefit from his proposed policies.

I kind of like Andrew Yang because at least he tacitly admits that he is buying votes.

Rest assured, Bernie Sanders will NEVER be president of the United States.

From your lips to God's ears.

The problem is we keep making more and more humans and we send these humans to be indoctrinated at what essentially is government expense is it because none of those college loans are ever going to be repaid it's something like 20 trillion dollars. Keep in mind that that figure is at least trouble what it should be because the rate of inflation for college expenses has gone up three times the rate of inflation. Anything the government subsidizes becomes much more expensive. We've now Todd and couple of generations of people very little and gotten them to agree to horrendous levels of debt I can see an awful lot of them turning out to vote themselves plunder.

When Mitt Romney pointed out that 47% of the population are not going to be receptive to any message framing the benefits to the economy of tax cuts since they already pay no taxes at all that number has risen to something like 52%.

A lot of people bemoan the lack of citizen participation in the electoral process. I don't. If you're not engaged enough and knowledgeable enough to be enthusiastic about voting I don't want you voting at all. More likely than not you're going to vote Democrat and of the Democrats the less-educated* and less motivated are likely to vote for Bernie Sanders probably tops the list. Just read the tripe that Fanboy Boy Next Door posts about Bernie Sanders.

*I said educated not indoctrinated before some idiot who is also uneducated trots out the statistics on how many people have a bullshit liberal arts college degree that support Democrats.

I think Elizabeth Warren is going to be the candidate. She's actually worse than Bernie Sanders because at least Bernie Sanders will admit openly that he will have to raise taxes on the middle class for his Medicare proposals and Elizabeth Warren who is an accomplished liar is perfectly willing to lie about it and the American public is eager to accept those sort of lies.

Doesn’t surprise me. Democrats are terrible at math, horrible at managing anyone’s money and clueless when it comes to eco-predictions. All around, their numbers just don’t add up like their “leading” poll numbers.

WTF is wrong with you people????

;) ;)

Those people will have to pay taxes on their new abodes. :D

I think even the Left has had about enough of this crap. Colbert challenged Warren the other night on how she's going to pay for her ideas. She tried to deflect but he wasn't buying it. His response exposed her for what she is, a fraud. Just like all the other Lefties pushing the same "free stuff" ideas.

He could seize all the assets of the rich in America, all of it, and only run the government for 6 months, and when that is spent there will be nothing more to tax and they and all they have wrought will be destroyed. Bernie is a lying Communist.

And clueless about government and the law.

Not if those abodes are owned by the federal government. This is another problem that hasn't been addressed yet. If the feds take over the properties through eminent domain, the property tax rolls will be reduced, so the remaining owners will have to pay more, either directly or indirectly.

She’s dodging the question and won’t openly say she’s going to raise taxes on the middle class.

Everyone knows that’s the answer because she can’t get enough money from the 1%.

Fuck yea! Nuthin but money. The government wants to provide for all your needs. They will take care of everything all for the paltry sum of your freedom.

You do realize that Bernie Sanders isn't the government, don't you? Well, maybe you don't, considering it's you. :D

He's not the government, but he wants to become head of the government, and he's talking about what he'll try to do if and when that happens.

What's this, his 5th plan that's going to be paid for by taxing the wealthy? Someone should tell Bernie that rich people have enough money to move somewhere that won't tax the fuck out of them.
