A few months ago, a story by IronMan80 was published, with the promise of the second instalment "soon". Several months later; and some comments to the fact, both story and author have disappeared from Lit. Anyone have an idea of what/where?

I think you mean IronMan40. I don't see any evidence that they went anywhere, sorry. EDIT: By no evidence, I mean for example that I searched for the first line of the story (The dog's name was Biscuit, but Bella had started calling her "the excuse.") and did not find it anywhere else.

To answer your question with speculation, I think when authors leave, it's some combination of four things: (1) they got harsh comments or verbal abuse; (2) they got a future installment rejected with feedback that they didn't like (or, perhaps more annoying, it just never seemed to get reviewed); (3) they realized that they don't want to continue the story, or they have some sort of personal crisis; or (4) they withdrew their free Literotica content to try to publish it.

Usually, but not always, they will leave some trail if it's #4 (like the leave their "bio" page up and add a link to smashwords or patreon). Some authors do end up elsewhere, but it seems like a lot do not.

Given that this author published in LW, I'd bet on #1.

EDIT: Doubling down on this bet. The archived copy the day after the story was released shows five comments, one positive, one neutral, three pretty negative. So, par for the course on LW. One person snidely announced their 1-bomb because the title did not contain "Ch. 01" or "Pt. 01". The rating was 2.86.

Many thanks. I did see a couple of “looking forward to the next part” comments. I posted mine after a couple of months of inertia, to the effect that JCLife did the same with “Love letters in the attic.”; it was by no means snide; maybe a little facetious? Another was similar to mine. This has happened with others. However, i was FB friends with Daniel Q Steele, and we all know why WWWM will never see the light of day. On another story, at least Andyhm has posted an update on where he is with “Kim”. Good to see your comment though!
