What is safe sex with a man? I know using a condom for anal sex is a must. But all the erotica and experiences I read at this site never include a condom for oral sex. This can't be safe can it? Also what about rimming? I have just had a couple of experiences with a guy and basically just been a recipient. Have been sucked off without a condom, and the guys pulls out before cumming. What about the precum? Want to do more, but not worth dying

Safe sex is safe sex. use a condom as much as you want to if you want to be on the super safe side. it all boils down to how well you know the other person though. if it is someone close to you and who you trust, then they should be honest with you and not let you do anything that would be unsafe. As long as you are both clean, theres no reason to worry about dying. You just need to make really sure that you know the person and trust them before getting into unprotected sex.

Not designed to frighten anyone but merely happened to read this just before this thread.

HIV Cases Climb Among Gay, Bisexual Men in U.S.
Mon Jul 28,10:36 AM ET
By Paul Simao

ATLANTA (Reuters) - The number of gay and bisexual men diagnosed with HIV (news - web sites), the virus that causes AIDS (news - web sites), climbed for the third consecutive year in the United States in 2002, fueling fears that the disease might be poised for a major comeback in this high-risk group.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which reported the finding on Monday at the 2003 National HIV Prevention Conference in Atlanta, also revealed that AIDS diagnoses overall had risen 2.2 percent to 42,136 last year.

"The AIDS epidemic in the United States is far from over," said Dr. Harold Jaffe, director of the CDC's National Center for HIV, STD and TB Prevention.

An estimated 850,000 to 950,000 Americans have the AIDS virus. AIDS killed 16,371 people across the nation last year, about 6 percent fewer than in 2001, according to the CDC.

Although U.S. health officials have been preaching HIV prevention to all Americans, they have become particularly concerned in recent years by an apparent resurgence of infections among gay and bisexual males.

HIV diagnoses among men who have sex with men surged 7.1 percent last year, according to data collected by the CDC from 25 states that have long-standing HIV reporting. New diagnoses in this high-risk group have increased 17.7 percent since 1999, while remaining stable in other vulnerable communities.

Jaffe cautioned, however, that the jump in HIV diagnoses could have been caused by increases in the number of gay and bisexual males being tested for the virus and was not proof that this group was being infected at a faster rate.

STANDARD TESTS

Standard HIV tests cannot tell when a person was infected with the virus, leaving open the possibility that HIV was contracted many years before being detected.

That could change in the coming months as the CDC implements a new HIV tracking system, which is based on a blood test that it says can determine whether a person had been infected with HIV in the previous six months.

CDC officials said the new surveillance strategy, was prompted by a need for more precise data on HIV infections and trends. About 40,000 new HIV infections are reported in the nation each year.

Since the AIDS virus first surfaced in 1981, estimates of new HIV cases have been based on the predictable length of time -- usually 10 years -- that elapsed between an initial infection and the onset of AIDS symptoms.

But the development of antiretroviral drugs has slowed the progression of AIDS and made it more difficult to predict when a person contracted HIV.

"It will provide us timely information on HIV transmission that is occurring now," said Dr. Robert Janssen, who directs HIV prevention programs at the Atlanta-based agency.

"What it will do is allow us to target our prevention programs to those areas and populations among whom HIV is being currently transmitted," Janssen added.

The CDC plans to have the system in place in 35 areas that account for 93 percent of annual HIV infections by 2004. The agency has allocated $13 million in supplemental funding to state health departments for the program in fiscal 2004.

and this is the number one reason why not to jump into the sack with any cute guy. Knowing your partner is an absolute must. (to me anyway)

Isn't HIV in general on the rise? I read something the other day saying the HIV rate is rising in teenaged girls.

thanks for the info. much appreciated. hope to hear from more of you out there.

There is no 100% guarantee of safe sex. You can only try to make it safer.

The safety of unprotected oral sex has always been a matter of controversy. Most studies have shown that there is a very low risk of infection from oral contact, but that a risk does exist. Factors such as gum disease, herpes sores, cuts in the mouth, etc. increase the risk.

Erotic stories should not be taken as a model for behavior. Authors will often skip over such things as protection, birth control, etc. in order to maintain dramatic flow.

Exactly. These are fantasies. In a fantasy, you don't need a condom. The very nature of this board, lends itself to fantasy. Only in the HOW TO board do you see a NONfiction discussion of the mechanics of sex. Fact and Fiction do not always go hand in hand, and only if it furthers the story in some way does an author use actual fact. You can tell who has done their homework, who hasn't and who doesn't give a fuck. In all honesty, with the HIV on the rise, it would be better to consult a health care provider on the risks before engaging in any sexual behaviour.

right. guys do write in to some of the forums about their experiences with oral and say they swallow. either they are wishing or taking too much risk for my money, even if you know for sure it is a guys first time with another guy-though I guess the risk is probably less

How do you decrease the risk of cuts in the mouth? Should you not brush or not use mouthwash, or one of the other?

There really isn't much you can do. If you avoid brushing or flossing, you increase the chances of gum disease, and you have defeated the purpose.

Even crusty bread or crunchy snacks like tortilla or potato chips can cut the inside of your mouth enough to create a danger of infection , while not even being noticeable.

I think just maintaining the best possible oral hygiene is the best course.

F/F safe sex

As long as we're on the topic, does anyone have any statistics on HIV and other STD transmission among the lesbian community?

As far as safe sex in general, male/male, male/female female/female trans/nontrans etc...etc...

Condom while giving oral sex on a penis
dental dam/seran/plastic wrap while giving oral sex on a vagina

condom/birth control/spermaside(nonoxylgen9 sp?) femal condom (never use male/female condom together...they stick and tare)
never double bag (use two condoms of either type bc they tare and ware down)
check expiration dates, keep them in cool dry non wallet places.
Condom for anal ( I'v heard that some use female condoms, i'm not entirely sure how that works or if it slips in accidnetly in the heat of the moment, so don't do it till you research it more then I did )

Proper Lubrication, spermiside gels, foams.

No oil based lubrications with latex it weakens the latex.

Allergic to latex? Use a lambskin under a regular condom, they also make polyurathane condoms I believe their other claim to fame is that the subtly heat up... that could be done with a lubricant on them though.

Think all the latex is gross... they come flavered, they sell copious amounts of products that have a flavor that are safe to use... they come in individual mini packets to huge tubs with squirt pumps... amaznig how far the sex industry has come. (no pun intended. But could be used ;) )

I'm sure this sounded like a health class text book lesson, but I know 30yrold+ that don't know these things. Can never be too careful.

OH! and I think we've all seen a condom demonstraition before ... ya know... where a person will roll one over their arm to demonstrait that "its too small for me.... so i don't wear them..." is a lie. Hey, it might be done with magnum XLs (who knows really) but the point is... it can be done.

everything sprouts from the basics. They're good to know.

I mean... there was sex... and then sprouted "When in Rome..."
