You people are so goddamned naive. The kid will go to someone who shelters kids for the money, or a relative who wants the money.

Hopefully she'll still be in your class.![]()
That's why the rule came about - no concert/no tour. There is makeup work for the concert to take care of the grade issue (I do not expect this child to have to worry about that, of course) but the rule tends to keep people honest.
I've had someone break their arm before on the day- they were excused.
But I was hoping that her situation would remain completely private. No one else needs to know, of course, but I meant from me as well. She can tell me if she wishes but she's a private sort of kid. Then again, maybe that's been from necessity.
But now she'll know that I know. But maybe that's okay. I really hope she's at school today.

Concert tonight - it went very well.
But before the event began our school resource officer pulled me aside to tell me that one of my students wouldn't be there. SRS had taken her out of the home earlier that day for neglect and abuse.
Her biggest worry? That she would miss the damn concert.
My biggest concern? That I never realized her situation.
Dirty clothes at times, certainly. Sporadic attendance as well.
Damn it, damn it, damn it.
I hope she's okay.
I don't know if I should let on that I know her situation.
She may not wish anyone to know.
Then again - well, hell. Concert attendance was a requirement for the kids in order for them to go with us on the all day music tour in a couple of weeks. I bitched at great length about this.
But of course she's coming with us - no question there - but now she'll know that I know why she missed.
Maybe that's okay.
I'll lose a bit of credibility with other students to allow her to go, as well.
They'll get over it, I think.

Thanks Joe.![]()
"More than likely this should happen. They wouldn't want to disrupt her life so much as to tear her away from everything
Good advice, thank you folks.
She was back at school today. (School social worker said she is in foster care.)
She was very quiet, was wearing clean jeans and a new T-shirt. I called her aside, patted her on the arm, said it was good to see her, and told her that of course she was still going with us on the tour. She smiled.
It was a very busy day today, too. The high school director came by to audition kids for next year. Lots of kids tried out. She was hesitant, I made her audition.
(She made the select group).![]()
