These are sadly funny.
Stupid Crooks
Even though I got a chuckle out of them, it does sadden me that people are so stupid.

Wo.

There's no end to people, is there?

It's incidents like these that retard the realization that there's a brotherhood of humanity. You just don't want to claim 'em as kin.

I feel the same way about reality TV. Embarassed to be part of the same species.

There was a column in Easyriders magazine which used to appear just back of the title page/contents every month. It was a "news of the Weird" idea, written by "Spider," whom I assumed to have been a member of the Webb family. But as time went on, more and more of the column was concerned with criminals who were monumentally stupid.

The guy that refused to give his address in an inconsequential matter (he was a witness to an auto crash or some damn thing)-- they asked him why. "I ain't giving you guys my address! I got a hundred pot plants growing!" So they followed him until he went home, and sure enough...

The guy who stole wallets, extracted the money and sent the rest back to the victim (you can just drop it in a post box, actually). A fellow who had lost a wallet to the guy was sitting watching the tube, when wham-plup! something struck the front wall of the house, just behind his chair, and rebounded onto the porch floor.

There on the porch was a wallet. Not his, but that of the kindhearted pickpocket, who had thrown the wrong one.

Spider's column was my favorite.

They add extra time to a sentence if you use a gun. Maybe they should likewise add some if you do the crime in an especially stupid manner.

Burglary in the Nighttime, aggravated by exceptional stupidity. How does the defendant plead?

Not stupid, your Honor.

Years ago my partner and I answered a disturbance call in a trailer park. A couple of the college students were squared off in an arguement with the owner of the park and two of his sons. The kids had sublet the trailer. Unfortunately the lease agreement with the original renter specified "no sublets".

Who was right? Didn't know, didn't care. Judges and lawyers get paid to figure things like that out. Cops get paid to keep the peace. The kids agreed to go back to the dorm. They hadn't moved in yet, only one kid had anything in the trailer, a tote bag.

The owner didn't want them to go back in so everyone agreed I would go get the bag. When I brought it out, I asked the kid if there was anything in it he could identify to make sure it was his, and not the original renter's. He said his wallet was in there.
I asked for and received permisssion to look in the bag for his wallet. It was in there, with his driver's license. And 6 dime bags of pot. First dope bust I ever made.
