If this is a sites protected by Freedom Of Speech, why do you need a thing at the bottom of every post that says, "Report this post to a moderator?" In which case, why does this site have a moderator?

Are you kidding me? Free Speech doesn't give you unlimited rights. You can't give out personal info, for one. If Laurel misses a post, this makes it easier for her to find and remove it.

Because it is a privately owned site and there are things that are not allowed here. Free Speech protects this site's right to exist and to operate. However, that does not mean that people have the right to say anything they want to here. The people who come here are protected by the rules from spam, pedophilia, death threats, and having personal information revealed. When you see a post that has one of these rules broken, you report that post to the moderator.

there is freedom of speach and then there is stuff that is just plain rude

newspappers show freedome of speach but if they report an acceden't they will not say John smith who resides at 1245 Stetson street apartment 4 was in an acceden't his wife and 4 kids molly john franky and sarah smith showed up they are ... blah blah...

that's what the mods are for

Okay, I'd like to point out that this is a private site and we don’t really have a ‘right’ to free speech on this forum. It’s a privilege that Laurel gives us because she believes strongly in the First Amendment. In the real world there are limits to free speech and on Lit. there are a few extra ones to insure that no one is hurt by what is posted here and that Laurel doesn’t get sued over anything.
