Russian Police Arrest, Kill Owner of News Web Site

Looks as though Moscow is going back to it's old ways, totalitarian rule...my way or the highway (actually a bullet in the head).

The hardliners are back in power and trying to exert some of it.

Some people just don't get it. The very fact that "the people" are given the vote isn't a magic wand to democracy. The American colonies had decades of practice governing themselves when the Brits were too preoccupied with their own internal troubles to worry about the other side of the pond. It takes practice, lots of practice. That's why one can make a very good historical argument that the only successful revolution in history is the American. And contrary to the dreams of the neoconservatives, it doesn't necessarily export well. The Russians have always lived under czars even when the official title was Party Secretary. The chances of their living under anything else isn't very great because freedom is a scary thing.
