"I'm sorry, what?"
Of course she heard everything they had said but to her ears, it all sounded unbelievable.
The two men were in suits but each had a different color tie. The more menacing one had on a green tie. When he entered her home, he made it a point to look around, why? She had no idea. There was no one else home.
As if reading her mind, the man with the ugly ass orange tie asked her "Do you know where your husband is at now?"
"I--" she quickly closed her mouth. Did she?
"He--uhh--he's out of town on business.."
Wasn't he?
"For what?"
Yeah, for what?
"Listen, I'm going to ask you to leave--"
To her surprise, the two men stood. Orange tie handed her a card, "Have him contact us when you get in touch with him..or when he gets home either way."
Snarky jerk.
She just looked at the card on the table and didn't take her eyes off of it as the men left.
There were so many emotions running through her that rationalization left a long time ago. The first thing she should have done was to call her husband but what was the use?
More lies, she was sure.
No, she needed time to think.
~~Present~~
Yeah, she ran.
She needed time to think and the fact that she just disappeared was not part of the plan.
Had 6-ish months away been long enough to think and try to make sense of it all?
If course not.
She experienced confusion.
Rage.
Hurt.
Mostly hurt.
More rage.
Now she didn't know. All she did know was that she disappeared and changed everything about herself. Her looks, her job but mostly her attitude.
She was successful because no one found her yet.
Key word 'yet'.
