RPG thread to stop hi-jacking

A signed copy? Wow, that's great.

As I said, most groups are using 3.5 and the DM's that I've met tend to have a spare PHB (player's hand book) on hand.

Not sure how to go about finding a group. I'll be in the same boat in July though once I'm back in CA.

Oh yeah, the benifits of having an older brother who got tickets to the "killer breakfast" at gencon a few years back :D

I'll probably just wait until ghosst has a few days off again and see what we can do then - lol

Here's the gaming thread so we can stop hi-jacking the Battlestar Galactica thread.

I played a game of Paranoia XP back in August. It was just as much fun as I remembered it. I spent half the game laughing and the other half cooking up evidence against the other players.

Twilight 2000 was an awesome game. I didn't get to play it as much as I would have liked, but I always had fun.

Ahhh A fellow Paranoid..Cool..

Well damn..There goes that "Thread Pirates of the Board" LARP I had scheduled..*sigh*

Have never gotten into rpg games, console or real life. My best friend was into it but he'd never let me play it as I glossed over it - and my older brother tried it but his eyes glazed over too.

Anyways, I on a daily basis have to moderate Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger fanboys such that they won't berate each other over which had better music or graphics or whatever their pretenctious semi-cerebral debates are about. I have tried Chrono Trigger but I got really bored really quickly. Have to try the forum's new RPG game in it where I am a boss in it - and I'll be damned if I can make it to where my cameo is...

hehehe, both chrono trigger and final fantasy are very good (though final fantasy tactics is my favorite by leaps and bounds). Yes some of the hardcore game geeks can get very violent if someone insults their favorite game lol. And of course I mean internet violent, where they start calling eachother names, talking in caps, using nightmarishly bad grammar, and the F word at least twice a sentence. Best to avoid them entirely

WAT?! OMG FF7>_FFT

OMG OMG OMG

HOWO CANN YOUU THINKK THAT WAY!!!

...

And then the sarcastic grandmaster (1,000+ post type people) posts:

OMG OMG UR RITE!!!!

...

The activity reportedly seen is quite prevalently spotted on the GameFAQ forums where they have little polls like "Best Game Ever" and always devolve into a fiery fiery mess of caps lock, sarcastic leet and a general loss of any grammar due to the orgasmic sensations of fanboyism fury.

hehehe, you're exactly right :). I liked FFT so much because it was just a very well designed game, and had great replay value. Also there was a neat degree of randomness to it, the enemies will often have totally different stats and will act completely differently from battle to battle. One of the only problems in the game is the fact that they didn't really double check their spelling and grammar and translations when making it (Breath of fire 2 also had this problem in abundance). Most notably, things like when you summon Lich, the little box pops up: "Rich" lol. Just small things like that, Lich wasn't even a very good summon.

You know, that could be an understandable translation error. There is no "L" in the Japanese language and so often words or names with the letter "R" in them get L's gratitously.
IE:
Inu Yasha's big cat Yukoi is named Kirara but for some ungodly reason its dubbed as Kilala which sounds stupid, IMO (in my opinion).
Yeah, I'm a semi-rabid Otaku Anime Fangirl:D

I think if I had to moderate one of those boards I'd self extract my eyeballs...

Larps...well I have a sometimes lamentable tendancy to indulge the satisfaction of my curiosity.(as long as I'm not getting shot at ..well much at least)..*grin* and there was a REALLY cute redheaded chick playing.

RPGs can be fun..Though after playing the things for so many years ..Well Paranoia is about the most Un-RPG of the lot..(Depending on how the group wants it run.)
And of course it helps a lot to consider the makeup of the group of people you are playing with.

hehehe, yes, I know, I've taken three years of japanese classes :). It can lead to a lot of problems if you're trying to translate names. Thing is, Lich is spelled correctly EVERYWHERE else in the game except for that one little popup window when you cast the spell. Breath of fire 2 has a very similar error, when you go fishing, and chose your "lod" (instead of rod).

The good thing about it is that I (in a covert manner)or someone else can be sarcastic too and merely post something about Street Fighter 2 or Thunder Force IV and the other forces come in and totally change the topic which I can then move to the unmoderated forum.

Ah okay, then that's just someone being stupid.

Fave RPG Moment?

One of my fav moments was playing D&D with a group of newbies (myself included) lead by an experianced DM.
Playing a cleric of St Cuthburt that was a descendant of her diety- high Cha and tri colored eyes and a natural Charm ability like a bard uses.
She managed to pick up a sailor in a bar and went back to his ship "to see his etchings."
Rest of my group roll played on and when it came my turn to say what I was doing, I rolled a D20. Natural 20 and said "Wow, he's good."
Next turn- 20.
Next- another 20.
Then a 16- which I figured wouldn't make a fourth time in one night for that situation so said I failed and she was going to sleep.
Rest of my group looks at me and the youngest asked "What was she doing?!?"
Me: "Getting laid."
Him: "Wow."

Of course, this cleric later died a horrible death by getting sucked into the middle of the earth because our stupid rouge decided to try to steal a symbol of Lolth from an alter to her in the dungeon we were exploring.

hmm, an altar of lolth in a dungeon? was this forgotton realms? umm, don't the drow usually build their altars to lolth in big temples in their cities? And "sucked into the middle of the earth" sounds like an imprisonment spell popular with liches, not a clerical spell. Then again maybe it's not forgotten realms with a goddess with the same name as Lolth lol.

I believe we were playing Grayhawk at the time. Have only played FR once and that was before I knew anything about it so I did not enjoy it.

And in our games, the DM is God, the one word. If he says that touching that dratted symbol meant everyone with a Good alignement who failed the reflex save went *sqish* then they did.

Entire group- of which only two lived out of six, were like "WTF?!?!?!??!?!"
Now its funny though.

hehehe, okay, not forgotten realms then. Lolth is the spider goddess of chaos in FR, the Drow's (dark elves) main diety, so you can understand the mistake :).

Of course. I've read some of the FR books and good chunks of the diety books.

Nothing is more fun then telling an elf who follows Corellon that thier god's consort is an evil bitch.

Actually Lolth has been the primary deity of the Drow since way before Forgotten Realms. She first showed up in the Greyhawk days with the original Dieties and Demigods book as well as the Depths module series. (The D series that followed G and was wrapped up in Q1 for the old people here.)

oh really? well that's interesting. Well forgotten realms has probably put a lot more thought into her development than Greyhawk lol, espically with R.A. Salvatore's books.

Salvatore expanded on things, but she's pretty much the same as she always was. The big thing that Forgotten Realms and second edition did was change some of the powers of her followers. Third edition has done that even more.

lol, well okay I'm going to stop trying because you obviously know way more than I do.

LOL. That's ok. Just consider me a grumpy old man when it comes to my games. I've been playing D&D for about 23 years now.

I just heard an interesting one ..

Pearl defined some aspects of BDSM as LARP.

Live Action Role Porn.

After I got throuhg laughing, I promised her a spanking when she feels better...

Hmmmm...Just have to decide if it's punishment...or reward?

Another Old Man . . .

Got'cha beat by about a year. I started playing late in 1980 and have been playing at least once a week ever since. I'm currently running two games (an all-time low for me, I think): Oriental Adventures (D&D) and an online, PBP game of Fading Suns . . . which game I highly recommend.
