Roy Sullivan, the man who was struck by lightning 7 different times

Roy Sullivan was struck by lightning on seven different occasions throughout his life.

One time he was inside of a building, and a lightning bolt came into the building to hit him.

God, or some other supernatural force must really have had it out for this guy.

Wow!

Holy crap! stuff happens! During the recent "Shark Week" broadcast a couple weeks back, they had a story about a guy who was attacked TWICE (separate occasions) by a great white!

Criminy! Sharks scare the bejesus out of me. If I had a limb bitten off, and survived...I damn sure would NEVER get back into the water.

My apologies that I did not take the time to find the guys name or details before I jumped in to post here.

Anyway. I stay out of the water anyway. A guy the next county over from me is suffering from that gawd-awful flesh eating disease....and other's around here have died from the brain-eating amoeba.

Is all this happening because of more population? More people entering the water; thus creating more of the chance of infection? or because of it...more people and pollution IN the water.

Another one of those pleasures I enjoyed as a kid that is no longer safe for anyone anymore.

:(

By the way, Mike. I thought I had posted about this before many years ago, but can't seem to find it. Anyway, I remember this old family story but may be a bit fuzzy on the details...

Back in the 1930's, a good deal of my ancestors lived in rural Missouri. There was one particular odd fellow who I am related to (somewhat); don't remember exactly and it could even have been thru marriage....

This 40ish something man was a bit of an outcast in the town because of his somewhat strange behavior...nothing dangerous...just didn't fit in with the other townsfolk.

He had a hard life as few people would hire him for jobs and he lived in a shack on the edge of town...very poor. His other family members would take him food and otherwise look after him as best they could.

One evening, during a horrendous storm, he came staggering down the main street and fell down in the street...still smoking from his burnt clothing.

Apparently, during this awful lightning storm and torrential rain, he was trying to get to one of his family's homes for better protection as his old shack leaked miserably.

Several people witnessed his dramatic display in the middle of the main street and ran out to help him. He had suffered some pretty serious burns.

His story: He was running down the railroad tracks heading into town when a furious burst of of thunder and lightning hit the tracks....he was somewhat electrocuted but mostly suffered from the burns.

The big-heart-ed townspeople, along with his family absolutely doted on him for a few months while he recovered from his injuries. He stayed in some of the finest houses, ate the finest meals and got the best of care he could have ever imagined.

I believe he was staying in a home with several female family members at the time that eyes widened and jaws dropped....

Apparently, he had a propensity to dress in women's clothing and walk/conduct himself with very effeminate affectations.

He would help himself to the women's clothing, shoes, hats, etc. Nobody would protest as they all had taken such a liking to this gentle man and allowed him to do as he wished.

At first, the townspeople would gasp and were turned upside down by this anomaly, but after taking the bait of the source of his affliction, they all thought themselves progressive enough to accept what had happened and what he had become.

He became somewhat of a town celebrity and the townspeople took great haughty pride in informing outside visitors what was up. You see....he was "STRUCK BY LIGHTNING".

This man lived out his lifelong fantasy and fetish in peace, dressed and living as a woman at a time (THE 30's), that would have sent anyone else to be run out on a rail from this God-fearing, rural Missouri town.

It's been shared only within the family...that he was never struck by lightning, but had burned himself and carried out this hoax....so that he could simply be himself. He lived long and died happy.

Obviously smarter than the rest of the town. I just love this story!
