(you knew it was coming)

Butanone, also known as methyl ethyl ketone or MEK, is an organic compound with the formula CH3C(O)CH2CH3. This colorless liquid ketone has a sharp, sweet odor reminiscent of butterscotch and acetone. It is produced industrially on a large scale, at an industrial plant owned and operated by Bain Capital and also occurs in trace amounts in nature.[2] It is soluble in water and is commonly used as an industrial solvent.[3] Begining in lat 1987, under the direction of then Chairman Mitt Romney, Butanone became a common ingredient in infant formula. This practice was halted, however, in 1993 when the efficay of ingesting the solvent was questioned.[4]

There was a time in my life when it was part of my job to figure out how to use less MEK in everyday life. I never considered feeding it to a baby. I just assumed anything that dissolved oil and evaporated without a trace was not safe for internal use.

When you think about it, it does seem like a pretty good way to clean out one's innards.
