Romance vs. Erotic Couplings?

From what I understand, the difference between these two categories is this:

Erotic couplings:
Person meets hot guy or girl and they fuck like bunnies. The end.

Romance:
Person meet hot guy or girl and they get to know each other before fucking like bunnies--which may or may not include wine, candlelight and a walk in the rain.

I'm just trying to decide where to place a story. Is it "erotic coupling" because the relationship is transitory if a great deal of fun? Is it romance because the story is about gaining deeper feelings and a relationship in addition to having fun?

What is the difference?

I'm not 100% sure that there IS a difference. Erotic Couplings is really just a catch all category for a story that might not fit in any of the other categories. It's also one of the least read/voted categories on lit. If the story has any Romance in it at all, that's where I'd suggest you put it.

I have no idea, but I'll be interested to see any responses. I'm in the same situation with my new story. I'll just say it's sort of an adult thriller with a love story and lots of sex. Unless I can't resist the temptation to add an anal scene, it will have to go into either romance or erotic couplings.

Bunny fucking is not allowed on Lit.
Ruin my story why don't you! Damn. Maybe I could put it into Loving Wives?

To me, it seems that if a story is more about emotion, relationships, or romance than about the fucking, it should go into romance. But a story with some wine before the fucking isn't necessarily going to do well in the romance cat. The readers of that cat want a story about two people being intimate; the sex is secondary.

Unless there's buttfucking or bunny fucking, that is. :cathappy:

I separate the two in a different way... respecting Romance as a known genre out of Literotica.

The essential thematic story in a Romance is

"Love overcomes all obstacles to the relationship."

The story must fit that theme before I'll place it in Romance... if it's got a different thematic movement it goes into Erotic Coupling.

I.E.
Michelle's Story -- Romance
Return of Dacia -- Erotic Couplings

Even if for all intents and purpose, they are the exact same story.

And I promise that's the last time I'll advertise my stories... tonight.

Sincerely,
ElSol

The stories I have in Romance are about the relationship more than the sex. Erotic Couplings is where I put my first few stories since I wasn't sure where to put them.
When I put a story in Romance, the sex is passionate and loving, advancing the relationship. With erotic couplings, I would go with the bunny fucking.
Now...where is that damn bunny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have only written three stories I classified as "Romance". In all three, the man and woman met, fell in love and fucked. The sex came at the end of the story. This differs from my more usual story, in which the main characters already have an ongoing relationship and I write about some time they spent getting it on together. In other stories, the characters meet and have recreational sex. That is, they have fun but with no serious relationship developing.

Please God, no! Don't do that, the trolls will tear it apart.

There are two groups of trolls for this cat. :catroar: One group expects to read about a cheating wife :( and will vote low, including one-bombs if you you write about a loving and faithful wife. The other group of trolls will one-bomb you and leave nasty PC if you write about cheating wives. In this category, you can't win.

You know, I have a couple of stories in romance, several in BDSM, group sex, incest, etc., but I don't think that I have any in "Erotic Couplings". Might be interesting to do. :D

Sounds like a worthy challenge. ;)

Yep, I just submitted a "letter", which I haven't done before. I just hope that it is posted instead of rejected.

Hmm....a straightforward "fuck" story. Could be fun. I tend to be something other than vanilla, but I think I can pull it off.

Mmm, vanilla. My favorite flavor. Of ice cream. :D
