Rolling Your Own Smokes

I had a friend of mine give me one of his smokes the other day, which he had rolled (well, injected) himself and I absolutely loved it. It was incredibly smooth, tasted phenominal, took a long while to smoke, and had a very light aroma.

I'm hooked (so to speak) and I'm interested in rolling my own cigarettes. I did get some advice from him as far as getting a quality injector, tubes and such, and tobacco.

The other little tidbit I liked was that, including the cost of the tubes and tobacco, you can make an entire carton of cigarettes for about 8-11 dollars, depending on if you use the very most expensive tobacco or not. It'd take about 2 hours to do a whole carton's worth and, even including the cost of my own time, it's still cheaper than buying a carton commercially, given the taxes currently on smokes. Also, I understand that loose tobacco is generally free from many of the chemicals and additives that commercial companies put in their cigarettes to help them stay fresh, etc.

So I'm tossing this out to y'all, especially those of you in Europe, where I understand rolling your own smokes is very prevalent. What tobaccos do you prefer? What little tips or pitfalls have you encountered?

When in Tech School, I started handrolling my own smokes to combat the borrowers. The expressions I got when I handed a borrower a bag of Bull Durham (tm) when asked for a cigarette was priceless.

I used various pipe tobaccos -- Borkum Riff, Black Cherry, eetc in addition to Bull Durham. I found that pipe tobacco has to be rolled looser than drier tobacco, like Bull Durham, which is dry and flaky.

smokes

I roll my own JazzMan, have for a long time for manny of same reasons you stated, cheaper, cleaner an better tasting. Also, I don't pre-roll them. I carry the tabaco an papers with me and build it on the spot when I need one. That keeps me from smoking as much and, I'm in the army where people don't quit smoking, they quit buying... , and bum from you.....the prospect of having to roll their own smoke keeps most of them from asking.;)
I have smoked most common brands, and my favorite is Drum, it's smooth and tasty n very easy to roll.

You and me both !

Pipe tobacco is great (especially in a joint ! - makes the getting stoned process much slower and smoother and happier)

I too prefer the black cherry - although have recently been using blackcurrent flavour.

I actually found one person who would trade me a ready-roll for the makings!

Danny, I don't roll them any more, once I got out of Tech School I went back to ready-rolls because I wasn't trapped in a secure compound with the borrowers and could point them in the direction of the BX.

Segue

yeah, the pussy iz taking a turn for the better these days and...hey, can I roll one of those?

2 Tops for one

practise with sawdust...heh, heh

jazz, you're looking so Cooly dapper

Do you like Steely Dan?

Jimmy, I don't smoke cigs, but I learned a long time ago, how to roll them from my great great grandfather on one side of the family, and great grandfather on the other side. They rolled them by hand, perfecty circular.

It came in handy later in my life when I was smoking pot in high school. :D

As a matter of fact, yep.

Though, to be honest, I'm going to be pre-rolling my smokes once the injector thingie and the supplies get in. I just ordered about a carton's worth.

Sure, it's not as cool, but it's cheap! :D And besides, the guys at work are already looking sideways at me for a bunch of reasons, no sense in giving them the sight of me rolling my own smoke here. That'd send them right over the edge!

I'm still not sure I understand the Machinery

Joint? They sure don't make 'em very good...
Steve Martin- The Jerk

Yeah, I'm Mr. Noosebaugm...

Sounds good, Jazz

I'd love to hear your tunes sometime

I get imperfect Churchill cigars for 2

I'm loving Natalie Merchant on a mix tape right now:devil:

Jimmy:

I don't roll my own. In my college "getting high" days, I was known as the Pipe Man - because I absolutely, positively could not roll a joint to save my life....

I smoke American Spirits - all natural, no chemical additive tobacco in those suckers. And they've sent me a kind of "catalogue" before - they sell tubes, loose tobacco, and fill kits like you're talking about. I don't think they have a website, but you can call 'em at 1-800-332-5595.

They like sending free stuff from time to time too.....

One of my best friends has been hand rolling for years, no rolling machine. His cigarettes look like machine made, too. He always rolls them with a bunch sticking out the ends, then clips it off with scissors. He rolls with Top Tobacco. Drum and Three Castle are big with some of my friends. Don't use pipe tobacco, it's not made for drawing into your lungs, just the mouth.

Randy Rhodes

I'm looking for Randy Rhodes...oh, and hand rolled Cuban cigars:rose:

I roll my own Jimmi, besides the heaps lower cost, they taste less of tar than the talior made ones. I don't use one of those little machines to roll them, I roll by hand.

Buy the super slim filters and then you can roll them thin. The brand I smoke "Pocket Edition" you can't get in the USA.

While I sit watching the evening news each night I roll a days worth. I have a small silver cigerette tin that I carry the rolled ones it. Looks more classy than a plastic roll bag. Also make sure they stay sealed once rolled or they dry out too much and burn too quick.

Rolling your own is quite comman here in New Zealand.
