Rock Bands of the 70s, 80s, 90s, Big Then, But Lesser Remembered

A majority of the hair bands
Well, I dunno, Foghat and Deep Purple are pretty well remembered and are still staples of classic rock radio. You will still hear "Slow Ride" (Take it easy)" and "Fool for the City" pretty often on the radio, as well as "Highway Star." Now, the Pretty Things- that is a much less remembered band; I remember discovering their "SF Sorrow" album in the late 90s, first time I'd even heard of them, and thinking it was absolutely brilliant, easily as good (or better!) as any 60's rock out there.
As a kid who grew up in the 80's I can say that Triumph were as big as Journey were then, but far less remembered today. Maybe once in a while you'll hear "Got the Magic Power" or "Lay it on the Line" on the radio, and maybe they're better remembered up in Canada than in the States, I dont know.
A LOT of the hair bands had their five minutes of fame and then fizzled out, in many cases because there were simply too many of them. Why did we need to have Firehouse, Extreme, Trixter, Tuff or Bulletboys? When we already had Ratt, Warrant, Bon-Jovi, Tesla, Cinderella, Winger, Poison, etc.
Some great but forgotten early 80's bands: Zebra (Led-Zeppelin influenced hard rock from New Orleans), Saga (synth rock from Quebec), Kansas (classic hard rock from Topeka), Gamma (Rock, featuring Ronnie Montrose,) Krokus (hard rock from Switzerland!) and the Sherbs (originally called Sherbet, and from Australia)
All of these bands were great, and were all pretty well known at the time. Hopefully SOME of you guys out there remember these bands.

Budgie brilliant (but Welsh) influenced many later bands including Metallica.
UFO - Misty green and blue followed by Lights out was a sure fired route to deafness when played loud through headphones.
Wishbone Ash - twin lead guitars before Thin Lizzy even dreamt of it.
The James Gang
many many more late 60's 70's were good for music.
A good spin off thread would be some of the musicians who were around at that time.
and not forgetting Spinal Tap and Badnews.

Kansas truly original concepts varied speed, tone and volume. Great live in the late 70's

Triumph was very good. Saw them live back in the day and Ric Emmett the guitarist was well regarded. In the 90’s the band Collective Soul comes to mind. Saw them on a lark about 5 years ago playing small club venue in Ft Lauderdale. They were on first tour w new guitarist and drummer and I think it was their 2 me show of they tour. They were great and Ed the lead singer can work a room. I was amazed at how many songs I knew and became a fan right away. They give you money’s worth and it is a good evening. Seen them 2 more times and not disappointed. They kind of got caught in the end of grunge and between nu metal and squeeze of out I think

I was thinking the other day about songs that used to be familiar on the radio when I was a little kid that you just don't hear anymore. I'm talking about stuff that you'd hear when the classic rock format was in its infancy, but for one reason or another never made into the "canon." For example, there's a lot of old Santana stuff on classic rock stations even today, but not "Everybody's Everything," which was a sizable hit and got played a lot all through the '70s.
But that's the nature of music, I guess. There's always something new.

A lot of the playlists for radio stations are dictated by the record companies that own the station.
