Robert Reich: Beware Trump’s Election Night Trick

Smart guy, Reich -- his book The Work of Nations really lays it out, as to why the power and incomes of the working class have been declining since the 1970s.

Most of the fuckwits that Trump convinced to vote in 2016, have no interest in policies or politics - they simply voted for a TV guy who they recognised & believed he would give politicians the finger. They have little idea how voting works in 'merica - don't understand the arcane electoral college voting system or what happens if the Jan 6th certification process isn't completed (for whatever reason - disruption or plain refusal to accept the certification) and the voting of a president goes to the house of representatives - in which case Trump will be elected.

Same playlist as 2020 but it's going to be a more focused, more refined effort this time with the house speaker in situ, Mike Johnson

wait, what? I thought the new Congress was sworn in on the same day as the President? Am I mistaken?
No, I think it's a few days before the certification. Certainly not the day of the presidential inaugural -- if that were so, the ceremony would be entirely different.

I would hope that the votes would be tallied by Jan 3rd???

all those black daddies living by the 4 fs ( find them, feel them, fuck them, forget them ).

blacks have a higher propensity of violence than all races combined.

I wouldn’t even think of walking a predominately black neighborhood, wouldn’t end well.

Indeed, the house is certified on Jan 3rd so let's see how that goes - can the swearing in be interfered with if the Dems will have the majority? Can the current speaker of the house have some undue influence ? Is some quorum needed - pulling the house gop members out?

A quorum is needed in order to elect a new speaker - so Johnson pulling his members out prevents this - effectively shutting down any possible gov business

Yes, isn't that why trump is focusing on NY campaigning where the Dems hope to pick up seats & tip the house?
That, plus he probably wants to be able to point to it as proof that he really won, because he had support even in NY.

Also of note: we can expect the red mirage to be especially severe in Pennsylvania, because of laws backed by Republicans that disallow counting of absentee and early ballots in Philadelphia until election day (note we are NOT talking about announcing the results of those votes - only counting them). In 2020, there were just too many to count in one day. That will probably be the case this time as well.

That would be even more drastic than a government shutdown. It would be a constitutional crisis.

I don't always agree with Robert Reich, but to be fair, he's right more often than he is wrong, and he was the least neoliberal member of the Clinton cabinet.
