Does common sense involve not basing suppositions on lies and half truths?
Common sense is basically doing what makes sense and not making others accountable for your lack of it.
The hot coffee thing is a perfect example, that and the "do not eat this" that is put on those packs of silicon in packaging.
Common sense actually has nothing to do with racism or sexism -unless you want to say people should no better than to judge by anything other than the person themselves-so it shouldn't be attacked here in PC land.
But I'm sure it will because the end part of "I'm a victim" is what drives a good part of the bullshit of today's society.
Do you actually know the facts of the McDonald's coffee case?
Stop parroting your wife, its boring.
And it doesn't matter if I do or don't, I posted the link without editing another person's writing, take it up with them.
But here you go with the lynch mob everyone is a victim, again it proves the basic point of the Wah wah world.
oh for fucks sake
what a load of crap
esp the mcdonalds case, you would think someone would actually look up what happened instead of going by what the corporation wanted out

Yes, we do:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liebeck_v._McDonald%27s_Restaurants
The relevant portion:
Liebeck was in the passenger's seat of a 1989 Ford Probe owned by her grandson Chris, which did not have cup holders, and Chris parked the car so that Liebeck could add cream and sugar to her coffee. Liebeck placed the coffee cup between her knees and pulled the far side of the lid toward her to remove it. In the process, she spilled the entire cup of coffee on her lap. Liebeck was wearing cotton sweatpants; they absorbed the coffee and held it against her skin, scalding her thighs, buttocks, and groin.
And a bit more:
http://mentalfloss.com/article/26862/real-details-hot-coffee-lawsuit
The only real issue is the woman (or her attorneys) wanted McDonald's to pay for the medical bills which McDonald's refused. That is why it went to trial. In the end, as the above links show, the award was continually reduced until an out of court settlement was reached.
That said, the article posted about the death of common sense is spot on. If you don't know that coffee is hot and that putting it between your legs while opening the lid is asking for an accident to happen, then truly common sense is dead.
Did this article strike you as may be biased? The internet is filled with stories that have an agenda regardless of facts. The op storied was biased but did not present itself as news or fact. What you posted IMO presented itself as fact.

No, the relevant part is here:
Further, McDonalds' quality assurance manager testified that the company actively enforces a requirement that coffee be held in the pot at 185 degrees, plus or minus five degrees. He also testified that a burn hazard exists with any food substance served at 140 degrees or above, and that McDonalds coffee, at the temperature at which it was poured into styrofoam cups, was not fit for consumption because it would burn the mouth and throat. The quality assurance manager admitted that burns would occur, but testified that McDonalds had no intention of reducing the "holding temperature" of its coffee.
If it's not fit for consumption because it's so hot why would you put it between your legs and open the top? Wouldn't common sense be to wait for it to cool down?
I've found, those who bluster about having the most common sense turn out to be the biggest dipshits...
But that's just my observations...
More to the point... Why would they sell it?
Carbolic Smoke Ball Company.
Google it.
It's the grandfather of product liability cases.
Why? Because of not doing stupid things then blaming someone else? Not destroying property claiming they were trying to have fun? Not endangering others and laughing about it? Not whining about how they were injured because they couldn't be bothered to follow the warning signs?
You know why there are warning signs on hair dryers not to use them while in the shower? Because someone didn't think common sense applied to them.
