RIP Stan Lee

Stan Lee, a true capitalist. Way to go, Stan. Your genius provided jobs for countless others.

Just saw this. It sucks, but at 95, he had a great life. His imagination will live on in the comics he developed.

^^^^^
LOL, dumbass! :D

"Tony Stark is an unapologetic capitalist who made a literal killing selling weapons of death to the highest bidder...he made billions of dollars inventing new ways to shoot people in the dickhole...when he designed the character, Stan Lee wanted everyone to fucking hate him."

But Lee was still a capitalist -- not, perhaps, in an ideological sense, but in the sense of being a businessman.

This is gonna sound selfish cuz it totally is but I was gonna go out of my way to meet him at a con next year cuz I never have and always wanted to and now I never will. It really fucking sucks to be me right now.

Anyway yeah RIP dude. I really dug your stuff. Thanks for Spidey.

Initially, Iron Man was a vehicle for Stan Lee to explore Cold War themes, particularly the role of American technology and industry in the fight against communism. Subsequent re-imaginings of Iron Man have transitioned from Cold War motifs to contemporary matters of the time. Lee said:

"I think I gave myself a dare. It was the height of the Cold War. The readers, the young readers, if there was one thing they hated, it was war, it was the military....So I got a hero who represented that to the hundredth degree. He was a weapons manufacturer, he was providing weapons for the Army, he was rich, he was an industrialist....I thought it would be fun to take the kind of character that nobody would like, none of our readers would like, and shove him down their throats and make them like him....And he became very popular."

Quite a lot of political awareness for a comic-book artist!
