I guess technically he's still alive.
But he just released an album of standards from the 30s. Piano and arrangements by Diana Krall, guitar by John Pizzarelli, voice in full Tony Bennett mode.
I suppose on one hand it's better than him trying to rock at 70. But to my ear, it's godawful--an end-of-career last grasp at relevance, from someone whose fundamental talent is deep enough still to be contributing to the canon, if he would just stop being such a dweeb for 10 minutes.

And a glowing review from the New York Times cabaret reviewer here: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/07/arts/music/a-new-album-from-paul-mccartney.html
Plus bonus review from Amazon customer who said it best, IMO: "Ouch. This is the kind of vanity CD that your uncle George would record and which would then become a nostalgic bit of family history. It is not a commercially viable collection - except to the extent that it is Paul McCartney and a certain number of loyal followers will buy whatever he puts out."
