Iain Banks (author of the Wasp Factory and Dead Air), also known as Iain M. Banks, who wrote all the Culture novels, died .

He announced he had been diagnosed with terminal cancer two months ago, and just managed to get his final novel finished and on the shelves. In a strange twist of fate, it's about a man in his 40's deal with cancer in his final days - Iain had written it and was 87,000 words in before he was diagnosed himself.

I only wish I could have 1% of the impact with my words on others as he had on me with his.

RIP Iain M. Banks. Thanks for the words.

An excellent point.
Did anyone notice that author Tom Sharp (Wilt, Porterhouse blue, etc.,) als shuffled off this mortal coil recently ?

I did. Going to miss both of them. I have fond memories of "Indecent Exposure" with police being given aversion therapy...

I know Banks' publishers brought the date for his last novel forwards to June 20, but it wasn't quite soon enough :-(

I have really enjoyed the Culture novels and I have been a fan of Banks for years. At least his words live on.

:rose:
I enjoyed his novels about Scotland, especially The Crow Road. Sad news.

He will be missed. From what I've heard, he was a brilliant writer and lovely person.:rose:
