From here:
Esther Williams, the swimming champion turned actress who starred in glittering and aquatic Technicolor musicals of the 1940s and 1950s, has died. She was 91.

...Following in the footsteps of Sonja Henie, who went from skating champion to movie star, Williams became one of Hollywood's biggest moneymakers, appearing in spectacular swimsuit numbers that capitalized on her wholesome beauty and perfect figure.
91? Good on you, Esther! And the lesson to all of us: :rose: Keep on swimming :rose:

An actress from the golden age of Hollywood. Sad to hear of her passing, but she did get in her innings. :rose:

I love old movies so saw several of hers. Lovely and athletic and a wonderful role model for women who wished to be the same. RIP lovely Esther.

And managed to work through four husbands! By golly, that's one way to achieve polyandry. She used to have a swimming school near where I live. Maybe if my parents had enrolled me there I wouldn't be so helpless in water.

But if she had been the instructor, being helpless in water would have gotten you more attention, wouldn't it?

I can't help it. I think swimming numbers in movies and I automatically go the Spanish Inquisition scene in History of the World Pt. I. I hope Ms. Williams appreciated that scene for what it was. ;)

Didn't realize that she had passed, (or rather, that she was still alive until Thursday). She was so graceful in the water. RIP Ms. Williams :(

I remember reading somewhere that waterproof mascara was originally designed for her.
